Having a chip in your toner cartridge means that it will be able to communicate with your printer and send the toner level info. I highly recommend using cartridges with pre-installed chips as your printer will not detect the cartridges without them and youll have to carefully take the chips out of your old cartridges and transfer these chips to the replacement cartridges yourself, which will be a challenging and time-consuming task. Save your time and sanity and get cartridges with chips.
