The product works as expected, but very pricey. I wish there were other cheaper options. I used this product to remove rust from my knives.

I use these in combination with some glass to sharpen my chisels. These work really well for the moderate and fine steps. Id still recommended a coarse diamond stone for major surface flattening.

Great for honing a razor sharp edge on my knives.

Update: Im increasing this to a 5 star reviews. This lapping film has become an important part of my collection if sharpening tools. I find it especially helpful for attaching it to a dowel and then using it to sharpen recurves and flexible swords. It works far better than regular flat sharpening stones for those applications. Older review- I have a set of 9 very expensive Shapton Glass Stones for sharpening knives, all the way up to 30,000 grit. I tried out these abrasive sheets to see how they compare. The Shapton stones really are far superior, I was glad to confirm. Id feel pretty dumb if they werent. Ill try to make this quick. Im mostly talking about the finest grits. When you swipe your knife across the surface it leaves a visible gray trail. The abrasive is damaged along that trail and it cant be brought back to full performance by rinsing it with water or anything like that. So you have to be very careful not to cross that damaged area on subsequent swipes or else it will mess up the polish you are trying to obtain. So yes, it is possible to get a very fine polish with these sheets, so long as you are very careful and use a fresh sheet for every knife you sharpen. The sheets can be fun to experiment with but I think youll get more value and have a much better experience if you buy expensive stones.

These are pretty good lapping films. Puts a mirror polish on most metals.

This works really well, dry or with lapping fluid. I dont know what else to say other than this stuck well, cut well, and left consistently sharper edges than I have ever gotten with my stones and strop. As long as you dont accidentally slice one, they last a good long time too, especially as you get into the finer grits. I wish it were a more permanent solution (like stones) where you are only buying once, but this has such an array of grits that even as I add more stones to my collection, there will still be some levels of fine that I can less expensively get with these sheets.

I like the polish on the end results of my chisels and plane irons. I am not happy with the jump from 1,800 to 8,000, but I have a 5,000 gray PSA sheet still laying around to fill in the gap. I applied the PSA to flat 12 x 12 x 1.5 peace of granite for all my chisels and plane irons lapping. I touch up all the edges on a 10,000 grit water stone. I like the PSA on granite because is stays flat, not like my water stone that dishes really quick. Yes I flatten my water stone often with a lapping plate. But lapping is boring and the PSA on granite just makes it full proof for a flat surface.

Ii wish this had either a 5 or a 6um sheet to make these work better.I have a guilitine style paper cutter to trim these into 4×1 lapping strips, then put a mirror edge on my razor sharp folding knife collection

these are okish, they do the job but not better than a cheap stones. i did manage to get a very good mirror bright edge but did not find it easier or quicker than stones. i would imagine that any one reading this is already a sharping snob, so no this will not take your sharping to the next level, and no this will not replace your stones, no they are not much better wet/dry sandpaper you pick up from the auto parts store. in summery if you want to try something different, or have no other way to sharpen they yes these will work for you, but with 3 plates of float glass and costing a total of $59.98, there are much better ways to go about it. Quick tip, make sure the edge of the film lines up with the edge of the glass, if you sharpen a knife with a bolster you will not be able to sharpen all the way to the base of the blade

This lapping film is 100% made in the USA. These microfinishing lapping sheets were developed for industrial applications and can be used to flat lap or polish just about anything. This lapping film contains carefully graded aluminum oxide particles that are electrostatically coated onto a high strength polyester film backing. This fast cutting, water resistant abrasive provides precise, consistent, close tolerance finishes, and are available in a wide range of precise micron grades to meet any sharpening or polishing need. They can be affixed to a hard flat surface (usually 1/4 inch glass) and used to get a scary sharp edge on wood chisels or plane irons. They can be wrapped around contoured sticks and used to sharpen carving tools. They can put a wicked sharp edge on all kinds of knives. They can also be used to put a fine polish on jewelry or gem stones. These are PSA and have pressure sensitive backing. They have a 3 mil high-strength polyester film backing which is less likely to tear than traditional wet or dry sandpaper. The sheets are not marked so using their color is the only accurate way to identify them. These Aluminum Oxide (AO) sheets come in the following grades: 1) 0.3 micron (white) or 60.000 grit 2) 1 micron (light green) or 14,000 grit 3) 3 micron (pink) or 8,000 grit 4) 9 micron (light blue) or 1800 grit 5) 12 micron (yellow) or 1200 grit 6) 30 micron (green) or 600 grit and 7) 40 micron (blue) or 300 grit. The sheets are not marked so using their color is the only accurate way to identify. In the finer grits, it can be difficult to differentiate the abrasive side from the backing. The abrasive side will always have a matte finish, where the film backing side will be glossy.
