I use these to clean rocks and mineral specimens. You have to get a feel for it, as the stiff bristles can pull out delicate crystals. However, I still prefer it to steel or brass as these leave no marks or scratches. They will wear out more quickly than their metal counterparts. Use the appropriate preparation soak for your specimen, and then start with the large end for removing wide or deep patches of dirt, clay, or impacted debris. Then use the small brush to get into tight spots and detailed areas. You can even use a single bristle to sweep between druzy or clean out stubborn pitted areas. All around, it an excellent tool to add to your picks and solutions for preparing nature’s geologic wonders!
