01-04-2025I’m surprised with the performance I got with this Acer Aspire C24-1700. I didn’t have very high expectations given that I got the i3-1215U variation and the whole computer is so thin that I didn’t expect a very snappy performance from it.

> 3 dayMy 2019 purchased laptop wasn’t able to upgrade to Windows 10, and I really needed something more reliable since I work from home. This was able to be delivered the fastest with the best specs I’d like to work with. I paid more than I believe it was worth, but I needed it for work.

> 3 dayThis computer makes a clean set up. The keyboard and mouse use a single dongle, so there are no wires for that. The DC power cord is the only wire required and it clips to the support. The power adapter has lots of good safety approval marks. The machine comes with a reasonable sized internal fast boot SSD drive C: and a larger mechanical HD for data, drive D: The mechanical drive tested to have an odd slowness for random read. I tested this multiple times and it was odd to see random read speeds lower than random write speeds. I did a speed test to see how well the wifi worked. Since this speed results includes my ISP internet speed, the wifi could be faster than this. I did upgrade from the Windows 10 that came on the machine to Windows 11. It took a good bit of time, but I didn’t encounter any problems. To gage the graphics performance I installed and went into a virtual world. I got frame rates of about 50 fps with the default settings somewhere between high and ultra. This is quite good. The camera on the screen has a shield for privacy. The camera did not support Windows hello. I would have liked a higher resolution screen, but other than that, I don’t see anything to complain about.

> 3 dayI was so excited to buy this for my virtual class. I set it up a few days before and the morning of the 1st class I made sure everything was working fine. Tested the audio and microphone.

> 3 dayI was excited to get this computer. My old desktop PC is about 10 years old and has been running very slow lately. This Acer all-in-one PC is definitely a very different type of computer than Im used to. Here are the things I like and dislike about it.

> 3 dayWhen you buy an All-In-One, you have to know that sacrifices are being made to fit the computer in the screen. I have an iMac for work that cost thousands more and it is painfully slow for anything that requires heavy lifting from the GPU like Blender, video production, etc. It also just quits at times. For a much lower cost, I actually prefer this for most things. It is speedy for browsing the web, can act as a basic media PC without bogging down like the little stick PCs, and has a big screen with good viewing angles. The video memory is enough for a second screen, but Id definitely opt for a desktop if you plan to do much more than word processing or light photo editing with that combined resolution.

> 3 dayI will start this review with the admission that Im not a big fan of All-in-Ones. That said, this one seems to be a nice little unit for a typical home user.

> 3 dayIve owned a lot of different computers over the years. Macs, Windows, laptops, desktops, and all-in-ones. I think of all-in-ones as essentially laptops that have a much bigger screen, and this Acer is no exception.
