> 3 dayI learned from years of owning a Raspberry Pi that you should always spend the extra money for the genuine original if you are just starting out on learning to use it. I have so far only used this one with LED bulbs so I could see my code in action. If you are experimenting in ways that might damage the board, you should invest in a cheap knockoff.

> 3 dayWell-executed, versatile little machine for learning C/C++ or assembly-language programming. A smart, curious eight-year-old can probably get this going by herself without assistance. The user forum is one of the friendliest and most helpful Ive encountered. The Arduino graphical programming environment requires Java, which may conflict with a different Java you had to install to run some other Java application, but otherwise works well on Linux. The serial monitor is a nice touch, lets your application put out debug messages, without external hardware. Also makes a dirt-cheap development system for AVR programming, since the target chip is socketed. You might want to invest in a zero-insertion-force 28-pin DIP socket for that.
