I needed a larger hook to crochet with blanket (chenille) style yarn. I really like the aluminum because it glides better across the yarn than plastic, acrylic or bamboo does. I attempted to use a Susan Bates aluminum hook, but it was too sharp and cut into the yarn. The Boye hook is perfect! There are no sharp edges that will slice and cut the yarn. When I first started to crochet, I used Boye hooks. After the issue I had with the Susan Bates hook...I will never stray from Boye again!
