To me cosmetic damage would indicate perhaps scratches, perhaps dirty scuff or marks. The bottom corner was broken with missing pieces. No, it wont impact the function but was certainly more damage than I would have thought given the description.

This was great to use as a sewing box. All the compartments were adjustable so that I could make them fit things where I wanted the and how I wanted them. I would recommend this item to anyone.
