Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor, Black

First off, this monitor is great and it really should deserve 5 stars. It is not a true professional monitor in terms of color reproduction and accuracy. But for anyone looking for a more premium monitor that is 16:10 aspect not 16:9 then this is a great choice. I have 3 of them running in Eyefinity mode and it looks great for movies and games. Now the reason why it received a 1 star is because of Amazons service, particularly Amazon Primes service. I ordered this monitor on Dec. 2nd at 1pm PST. During check out, Amazon prompted me to try Amazon Prime for 1 month for free. I thought this would be a good idea since I do purchase items often on amazon, and if it turned out to be good I wouldnt mind paying the fee to continue. I mean hey, 2day shipping sounds pretty awesome. So I went ahead and did the free trial and checked out; I received an email saying confirming transaction and packaging item. Wow that was fast! At night time it said shipped and arrives Dec. 4th i.e 2 day shipping. I get my tracking number soon later which also prompts the same thing arrives Dec. 4th by 8pm. Dec. 4th comes and I wait all day, but nothing. I check the tracking, it says Arrive in Anaheim, CA at 4:21am Dec4th which is roughly 5miles from where I live. I thought weird, but sometimes shipping has problems so I get a little annoyed because its suppose to be 2day shipping but Im not mad. Dec. 5th comes; I wait all day again. This time it says out for delivery at 7:02am Dec. 5th all day on the tracking. I wait until 8pm, nothing. So at 9pm I decide to contact amazon customer service via CHAT. I get to the person (Monique) and explain my situation and frustration. She gives me a bunch of run-around answers about how it got lost in the the tracking system and that the tracking isnt accurate sometimes. So I say it said out on delivery from Anaheim. does that mean its not REALLY out on delivery and its just sitting somewhere at a warehouse?? and her response was your item is our for delivery, it is in transit and then they left the chat. Just like that, no bye , just left my chat. So Im pretty mad and disappoint now and I try to get another customer service chat person. This time Ingrid A. helps me and I explain to her about my item and how the other customer service rep just left me hanging. This time around, Ingrid was actually very polite and tried to help me. She said that after looking at the tracking service it looks that my item will arrive on Dec. 6th. And that she is very sorry for this problem and is willing to offer me an extended month of Amazon Prime. I reply this is my first order with Prime and it already has this complication, why would I want to use Prime again? Then she says I understand your frustration, so what would you like me to do in order to solve this problem? I answer well, what I would like is for my item to arrive on time like it was promised, but I realize that isnt possible now. So if this was a retail store or a department store, then some kind of discount would be fitting, is that right? She says let me see what I can do. After some minutes she comes back and says I can offer you a $15 credit to your account. I said I was not satisfy with that to be honest. I even ask her if she would be satisfy. She said thats the only thing she can do for me or extend the Prime account. Wow, $15 credit or a month of prime after that fiasco? Might as well spit in my face then. I say this, isnt Amazon Prime suppose to be a premier service? $79 a month isnt cheap. Arent they trying to set themselves apart with Prime? And when something like this happens this is how they handle it? How are either of those fitting compensations to ANY costumer that wants to use their Prime service? Is this how Amazon mottos their business and customer service satisfaction? Its disappointing to see how Amazon sees its loyal customers. I end by saying, I have 3 of these monitors, the first 2 I bought directly from Dell and they did not disappoint in service. This 3rd one I bought here, but I wish I would have save myself the hassle and bought from them as well. Thanks but no thanks for $15. Really Amazon?

Ive been trying to find a new monitor for some time now. I tried 27 monitors but in every case there was a problem with them - color desaturation, glass chips, LED bleeding, dead pixels, stuck pixels, defective ports, etc. Maybe I have terrible luck but is it so much to ask that a monitor actually fully work out of the box? Apparently so - I gave up on 27 monitors and turned to 24 monitors. Even in that range I had a real issue finding one that I liked (including other Dells) - until I came across this monitor. This is how monitors should be: sharp, clear, colorful, responsive, and with no defects. I liked this monitor so much I ended up getting three of them (and none of them had any problems). The picture is excellent and the colors are perfect. I havent noticed any ghosting when gaming and the viewing angle is great. The ONLY thing bad I have to say about the monitor is its lack of connections. Oh sure, it has DVI, VGA, and DisplayPort but I would have liked to have seen a second DVI port and/or an HDMI port (I hook in a Windows box and a Mac Mini). A very minor complaint, though. PROS: *Great Picture/Color/Response. *Everything worked! No dead pixels, no stuck pixels, no damage, no marks, no LED bleeding, no desaturation, great lighting and color balance - this was true on all three monitors. *Good menu system. *Excellent adjustable stand. *1920x1200 resolution is nice, 16:10 makes a huge difference. CONS: *Connections - would have been nice to have a second DVI port or an HDMI port; minor complaint though. This is easily one of the best monitors Ive ever seen, now if only there was a 27 version. I highly recommend it.

I had wanted to purchase a larger monitor. My vision isnt as good as it was years ago (Im getting more and more far sighted). Im now using TWO monitors on my computer which gives me screen real estate. I had a 19 1440x900 monitor and a 22 1680x1050. I intended to replace the smaller one with a 24-27. Actually, I was drooling over those 1440P or 1600P displays. The Korean 1440P 27 units can be had for about $300, but just how GOOD are they? I did some research found many rave reviews for the Dell U2412M. At about $275 shipped its a reasonable buy. Yes you can get a 24 1080P TN monitor for about half the price. What you will end up with is a stripped down TV set panel. In fact, you could probably just go to Costco and buy a Visio full HD TV and use the darn thing as a monitor for even fewer bucks. A computer wide screen monitor should be in a 16:10 format, not 16:9 IMHO. That extra height makes working on text documents in MS word (or Libre Office) easier as you can see more of the page. I was too used to the computer based screen ratio to put a TV set on my desk. The Dell U2412 is about the most affordable monitor in this format. If you read the reviews you might come across with the idea that this unit isnt perfect. Well nothing is. Technically it doesnt have the fullest color rendition, and if you need PERFECT color you might find fault here. Ive viewed photos taken with my Panasonic G3 on this monitor and flesh tones are correct with good contrast. I havent tried to set the color balance yet, all Ive done is fool around with the contrast and brightness settings. Im not a professional photographer though, so take this with a grain of salt. After ordering this monitor I found out about a controversy involving panel version numbers. Yes, mine is version A00 with a recent 2013 date code. I dont know what Dell is doing with the version codes, it may reflect where they are buying the panels, and they may have changed suppliers many times in recent history, only to go back to the original source. Who knows? I cant see any dead or stuck pixels, there is no yellow tint or any other kind of defect visible to my eyes. The unit was packed in a very ingeniously designed cardboard insert. Some reviewers have complained about this, preferring the older method of molded white foam packing. Well the cardboard is greener and made of renewable material. That foam is made from petrochemicals, in other words OIL. I prefer the cardboard. So far Ive had this monitor for under a week. Its brighter and crisper than the 22 AOC that is now sitting to the left of it as my secondary screen. If I had an extra $275 to spend, Id buy a second U2412M to replace the AOC in a heartbeat. Cons? Well it came with a single link DVI cable that is a bit too short for my setup and Ill probably end up buying an after market 8 cable. Some would call the lack of built in speakers or an HDMI input a con. Really? If you want those, then go get an HDTV and use THAT as a monitor. This is a COMPUTER monitor. DVI and Display Port connections are what are in vogue here. Yeah some computers DO come with HDMI outputs, but those are probably intended for HTPC use. I have a good pair of full range wall mount speakers hooked up to a 30 watt per channel amp for my computer sound system. I dont need a pair of two by nothing speakers in the monitor!

My first criterion when I was looking for a 24 monitor was screen resolution: I wanted 1920x1200. I know that its not completely rational; 24 1080p monitors (1920x1080) can be found for half the price, but I needed those 120 rows of pixels. This is partly because I will probably end up placing this in a dual-monitor setup next to a 20 4:3 monitor (1600x1200) and I like the vertical resolution to match. Well, whatever my reasons, I was set on 1200 vertical resolution, and given that restriction this was clearly the best deal to be found. Ive found nothing negative to report about it, only pros. 1) nice physical presence, with a fairly small bezel, not too modern-looking, unobtrusive. It has good smooth height adjustment, looks like about 5-1/2 inches of motion. Of note, it can adjust all the way down until the lower edge of the monitor is resting on the base, something that my other monitors have not done. 2) really, really good buttons and on-screen controls. There are 4 unlabeled buttons on the right side. At first I was concerned that I would have to memorize what each one does, but thats not the case. You hit any of the four to bring up a menu, and the on screen controls always clearly show what each button does. This shouldnt be such a big deal, because you dont spend much time in these menus, but it just makes me happy, and gives me confidence in the rest of the monitor. Note: I dont see a dedicated input source button, so folks who use the monitor switching inputs as a sort of KVM will have to go a couple layers into a menu to switch inputs, but this doesnt impact me at all. 3) display. The display is flawless to my eyes. I havent spent time tinkering with the color management options because the defaults look good to me, but there is a lot of configuration available, along with presets for movie, gaming, text, color temp settings, etc. Im able to make the display nice and dim, much dimmer than other monitors that I use. I use it for standard email, web browsing, streaming video, and gaming. For these tasks its perfect. Ive had no problems with ghosting or response times in games, its just a beautiful clear experience. I recommend it highly, although as I said if youre willing to give up those 120 rows of pixels, a 1080p monitor can be had for a lot less money.

This is an excellent 1920x1200 monitor and you cant get anything better for the price. Pros: 1920x1200 resolution, 16:10 ration means more vertical space. More comfortable to read websites, better viewing angles in games, still capable of displaying 1080p video. If you are working with 1080p video, you can see the entire frame, and still have substantial space on the screen for toolbars in your editing software of choice. This is simply not possible with a 1920x1080 screen. IPS panel: while this panel lacks the color depth of much more expensive monitors, again, you wont find anything better under $300. Excellent color depth and reasonably good accuracy out of the box, fairly easy to calibrate if you arent satisfied with the factory settings. Obviously, good viewing angles. Youll never use a TN panel again after seeing this monitor. Only drawback is the problem common to all IPS panels, it is difficult to get perfect black contrast. Gaming use: I mainly use my monitor for gaming. The resolution, color accuracy and flexibility of the stand allow for extremely comfortable viewing in all my games. The 60Hz refresh rate is adequate, it is the standard and you can only get better by sacrificing the benefits of an IPS panel. The input lag is acceptably low for a 60Hz panel (under 1 frame, so you should never notice an input delay). Cons: This model does not support Adobe RGB color space; this is only a concern for seriously hardcore professional artists. Even semi-serious amateurs really do not need to worry. As some other reviewers have said, if you dont know what this means, dont worry. This is the perfect monitor for almost everyone. The newer U2413 has better color depth but costs almost $500, so its really only for people who make money with their pictures. Personal notes: My monitor was great for a while, but after several months I got an intermittent flickering. It also had minor backlight bleed that was only visible in nearly all-black screens. I called Dell about the flickering (expecting them to tell me I did something wrong) and in two days they had shipped me a replacement U2413 (the next better model). I dont expect they often do free upgrades but they will always replace your unit as quickly as possible if you have a hardware problem. I think I lucked out and all they had in stock was the better model. Anyway, no other monitor manufacturer has such excellent, rapid customer service. All of the Ultrasharp line (U-whatever) have a 3-year warranty, which is the best in the industry. Im never buying a monitor from anyone but Dell.

Very sturdy monitor with well designed stand. In the era of cheap shiny plastics that belong in a discotheque this monitor has a nice, professional matte finish, plastics on this monitor simply have a better look and feel, you immediately understand why you paid more for this monitor. Now I would like to comment on this occasionally mentioned here yellow tint problem. First of all majority of monitors have some tint one way or another - a perfect white may exist only on a printed white paper. My iMacs screen doesnt give me a perfect white either. Second I would not call it yellow, it is more like an ivory. Third the monitor comes with the Standard pre-set mode, if you select some other available mode from the menu say Game or Movie the tint becomes even more white. You can also play directly with the colour temperature setting and make your tint for example blue if this is your fancy. In other words this yellow tint issue is in my opinion a phony problem that stems from ignorance. And playing with settings in this monitor is super easy, no manual needed, I was doing it within few seconds of unpacking, it is so intuitive. Having said all of the above I do allow for a possibility that some of those who reported this yellow tint might have indeed got a defective unit. UPDATE: 07.30.2014 So I wanted to do a quick update on my review. I work for a new company now and we recently ordered 13 Dell U2412M monitors for the office. Yep thats right, 13 of them. Strangely enough all of them now say REV A01 on the back and are manufactured in 2014. They also do not have the weird yellow tint issue that I was getting on the REV A00 models that were manufactured in late 2013. My company ordered these directly from Dell. This could be a fluke or Dell might have fixed the yellow tint issue. I am still kind of scared to try to order another one for home use. I have updated my review title. ------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE: 01.22.2014 Well my replacement U2412M came in from Dell today and guess what! It has the same yellow tint issue as well! So far I am 3 out of 3, all having the yellow tint issue. I was hopeful that this one would be better considering it said Manufactured December 2013 while the other two said Manufactured November 2013, but nope it didnt matter. Like I said, they must either have changed the panel they put in them at the manufacturing plant in China, or they are selling their old defective stock and relabeling them to look new. So the one I ordered from Amazon had the yellow tint issue and the two I ordered directly from Dell. I AM DONE. I am returning this one as well and just getting my money back. FYI: If you only have one of these hooked up then you might not notice the yellow tint as bad, but if you compare it to a close by laptop screen or other monitor that has normal colors you will notice how jacked up it is. ------------------------------------------------------------------- ORIGINAL REVIEW I highly recommend staying away from purchasing a Dell U2412M, mainly because all vendors including Amazon, Newegg, TigerDirect and even Dell themselves are selling a version of this monitor that has a horrible yellow tint to the screen. There is nothing you can do about the yellow tint. Even the most advanced screen calibration can not make the colors right. Obviously Dell is either selling an old recalled version of this now trying to get rid of old stock, OR they are now putting a cheaper screen in these monitors. Its such a shame because I already own one of these and use two more at work and they are perfect. I would totally give them a five star rating. But NOT the current one getting sent out to customers! Here is a little back story. I purchased a Dell U2412M for home use back in late 2012 directly from Dell. I opened her up and it was one of the best monitors I have ever used. I mainly use it for Web Design and Development. I even recommended this monitor to others at work and my company ordered over 10 over them for everyone in my design team to use. All 10+ of the U2412M monitors were perfect and all ordered in late 2012. Fast forward to today. I have been using dual U2412M monitors at work for over a year now and had been using a single one at home, so I decided to upgrade my home workstation to dual U2412M monitors as well. So I ordered one from Amazon (shipped and sold by Amazon) and when it arrived I noticed that it had a HORRIBLE yellow tint to the screen compared to the one I already owned and compared to all of the ones I use at my company. I checked the back and it said REV A00 and it was manufactured in November 2013. The U2412M that I have owned since 2012 which is perfect, says it was manufactured in May 2012 and is REV A03. I checked all of the ones at my company and they all say REV A03. I did a little research and come to find out, when this monitor first released all of them said REV A00 and that revision of them got recalled for yellow tint issues. So I ended up returning my new U2412M back to Amazon who promptly gave me a refund. I then contacted Dell and asked them what revisions number they were selling, and if it was REV A03 or higher. Dell could not give me a straight answer, but they said the REV A00 version of the U2412M was recalled and revised. They also assured me that if I ordered a U2412M directly from Dell that I would get the latest version/revision. So like an idiot I ordered one directly from Dell and guess what? Its another REV A00 and has the horrible yellow tint issue!! I immediately called up Dell and after talking to five different people they are now sending me out a replacement. My fingers are crossed that I get a good work version this time. Maybe third time will be the charm! Oh yeah, and its just not Amazon and Dell that is sending out the REV A00 versions with the yellow tint issue. There are people reporting that the same thing is happening with U2412M ordered from Newegg, TigerDirect and everywhere else. So like I said earlier, either Dell is trying to get rid of their old stock of REV A00 versions of this monitor, or they have completely changed the screen they are putting in these to a cheaper and very yellow screen. I will update this review when I get in my third U2412M. PROS: -If you get a good one, it is an awesome monitor! -16:10 aspect ratio for a full 1920x1200 resolution -LED lit so the brightness will stay bright for a very long time -Great colors and viewing angles -Text looks great for writing code or documents -Nice sturdy and adjustable stand -Rotatable screen -Easy to use menu -USB 2.0 hub built-in -Decent warranty from Dell CONS: -HIGH chance you will get a defective one with a yellow tint issue (If you get one this monitor is horrid) -IPS glow/bleed when on dark screens (however this is common with IPS technology) -No HDMI port

Pros: + Nice 1920x1200 resolution. I dislike the recent trend of making computer monitors 16:9 instead of 16:10. + Extremely bright on full blast + Great and sturdy adjustable stand with a 90 degree swivel (great for coding or web use) + Anti-glare coating isnt as noticeable as other reviewers claim + Matte screen. I hate glossy screens with a passion. + Convenient USB ports on the side and back + Have yet to see a single dead pixel. + Decent response times. Ive done some gaming on it and havent noticed much (if any) ghosting. Cons: - Backlight bleed. Mine isnt as bad as others Ive seen, but its still there. Lowering the brightness seems to help; you can turn it down to zero even and still have a bright picture. Its really only noticeable if the entire affected area is black. Im not too upset with it, and I dont feel like playing the RMA lottery to see if I get a better one and then end up with a worse one instead. The bleed is my only real complaint. If youre looking for a quality monitor in an affordable price range, I would definitely encourage getting this. Dells monitors have always impressed me with their quality, and a cheaper off-brand monitor wont look as good (even if its the same actual panel).

This monitor is a replacement for my 8 year old Samsung 213t. I was very happy with that monitor, and it lasted me through four computer upgrades since I originally purchased it in 2004. However, recently I had been wanting to move up to 1920x1200 for a little more space for my documents and software development tools. After one day of use, the U2412M seems to be an excellent replacement. Its much lighter than the 213t, and it runs much cooler due to the more energy-efficient LED backlighting. I will have to let others speak to the color accuracy, which I understand is generally pretty good for most purposes. From my relatively novice perspective it feels colder than my old Samsung, which perhaps is a result of the new monitor having whiter whites and less actual heat radiating from the front of the display. In any case, it does have a slightly different feel... not better or worse, but different. Pros: * Full-height 1920x1200 * Anti-glare coating (comparable to other anti-glare screens Ive used) * Good colors, seems to be best at 35 brightness * VESA mount for use on standard monitor arms and stands * LED backlight runs cool and is very power-efficient Cons: * Would be nice to have an SD card reader (not a big deal) I purchased this item directly from Amazon and it has zero dead or bright pixels that I can see. For those who care about this, they didnt double-box for shipment, but with Prime shipping via UPS it arrived with no damage.
