I ordered this Punch Set with low expectations since it just didnt look like it would have the power to get the job done. I am pleased to report that they do actually work! I was able to remove a stubborn door hinge pin with several cycles of the device without having to resort to a hammer and nail. I also had success with setting a small finishing nail. The ability to punch a drill set point in metal was less successful but it did still make a small indention. If you need a heavy-duty setting tool this may not work for you but for lightweight work its great.

I have a set of various sized nail setters that have seen a lot of use over the years, but have never seen a spring-loaded setter until I saw this set. At first, I decided against ordering it... just couldn’t see how it would work... but decided to give it a chance. After playing around with it for a while, it won’t replace my old school nail setters, but there are applications where this is a very handy tool to have on hand. It does deliver more force than I expected. Additionally, you get the hinge pin removal tool, which actually does a decent job and reduces the risk of damaging a door with an errant hammer tap. For the price, there is no excuse for not adding this to your tool kit.

If youve never used one of these youre missing out. I recommend this to anyone that needs to remove a stubborn door hinge pin. In the past I used a hammer and chisel or a screwdriver to remove pins and I was always worried I would mar the hinge or door. These are the perfect replacement, no more marring! Be careful these things can really move the hinge pin and knock it completely out. I just use it to loosen the pins, I dont want the pin messing up the carpet... Great little tool that does the job.

I had seen these things for a couple years now and wasnt too sure if they would work as well as they were advertised. Boy was I wrong. These and great and I couldnt tell you how many times I have made an excuse to use them since I got them in the mail. I have used them to knock door hinge pins out, set brad nails in trim, and a few other things and they have been fantastic, no issue whatsoever. These are a great gift for that DIY dad or friend you have in your life.

These things work great! I love the variety between the different heads so you can find just the right one. I had some framing nails that were poking up through the top of my banister and this hammered them home quite easily! Now I have to fill and paint the holes but thats to be expected. They are easy to hold onto and easy to use, even kind of fun. Im actively looking for nails that needs to be hammered away at haha. Recommend without reservation

I love these things! No hammer needed, keep it in your apron or pocket, pull it out to set nails quickly without having to carry a hammer on odd jobs. Not having to use a hammer with these is the primary advantage, but also, it is good in a tight or delicate spaces when missing the punch, or misjudging the strength with which to hit the punch could be disastrous. This product will save you from both short-comings. Some contractors think they are silly or a gimmick, but they really do work! You hold one end of the punch directly onto the nail head, pull out the other end then let go; a direct hit every time! Ive used other brands of these before and these seem to be totally up to par with those ones, and maybe even better! These are nickel coated, so I think they are going to resist rust better than the ones Ive used in the past. This set has the ideal array of nose & tip styles to handle most nail setting tasks from start to finish on a house construction site. I really like the straight hinge punch tip, its very multipurpose and can reach deep down to set nails without risk of widening the hole. This is a great set to have on hand, even if you already have traditional nail sets (they each have their advantages)!

I’ve never been good at using the old fashioned type of nail set - steadily hold the point of the punch on the exposed finish nail head with one hand and then tap the punch gently, but firmly, with a hammer held in my other hand. It seems that about every third strike of my hammer happens just as I allow the punch to slip off the nail head … and so I end up with a hole gouged in my work piece right beside the nail head that is still sticking up out of the surrounding surface. Bummer! So when I discovered this spring loaded nail punch I decided to give it a try. The result of my first test is shown in my photos. I short 3 nails into a scrap 3/4” thick board. Two of the nails were slightly proud of the surface and the middle one was just flush. If I were painting this, all three would need to be set slightly down into the surface and filled with putty or filler. Using the spring loaded punch I struck each nail head about 3-4 times as I learned how to use the new type of nail set device. I managed to get the left two set down just below the surface (as desired), but on the far right one I let the punch slip off the nail head and wound up with a divot beside the nail. So although the process seemed strange (since it was my first attempt), this spring loaded nail punch did accomplish its task just as good as the old fashioned type … 2 out of 3 were set nicely … and the third managed to get an extra hole beside the nail head that will need to be filled along with the nail hole. Hopefully I can improve my ratio of good hits with additional practice. As for the door hinge pin removal tool which is included in this set of 2 punches, although I didn’t test it, I think it would perform its task very well and without any risk of scarring a door with a hammer knocking out the hinge pin using a standard punch.

I liked the concept of this style of nail set in theory would be slightly more comfortable and efficeint than the traditional style but in reality i find it to be quite the opposite. Less comfortable to use in the hand and functions the same or less efficently than your traditional nail set.

If youve ever pounded holes in your nail- setting work, youll know why you need these. Work great and more accurate. Good for tight spaces, too.
