> 3 dayIve been reading reviews on the Doxie One for a few weeks now and finally decided to go ahead and get it. I ordered it last night around 6:15 pm and requested one-day delivery for an additional $3.50 (Amazon Prime). My scanner was delivered this morning at 9 am! I couldnt have gotten this scanner any easier, quicker or cheaper, so I was thrilled before I even opened the package. The scanner was well packaged and very simple to unpack and set up. The scanner is so user-friendly you wouldnt need to use the included owners manual, but it is so well-written and easy to read, you may as well. It includes all the information you might need and nothing you dont. Its also available on the manufacturers website, so you dont even have to worry about keeping that piece of paper. I downloaded the necessary software from the website, also a quick, easy process, and went right to scanning. Papers go in smoothly (just remember to put them through the scanner face UP) and downloading to my MacBook via USP was a breeze. Its easy to rotate pages, staple multiple pages together and send them to Evernote or Dropbox (or other location) for archiving. I havent yet tried scanning photos, but there is an included photo sleeve to protect your photos and I expect that to be just as easy as scanning papers. I live in an RV, so space and weight are at a premium. Ive been wanting to scan papers and photos for a while now, but it was such a hassle with my larger printer/scanner/copier (which now lives at my mothers house). Using this Doxie One is exactly how scanning papers and going paperless should be.

> 3 dayIts a good scanner. Image quality is top notch and it having an SD card is great when on the go. You can leave your cables at home. The only drawback is that its a little slow and you have to manually feed it, so if you have a stack you want to scan in, youll be sitting there a while. Other than that, its great. I would recommend it for someone who needs to scan paperwork on simple things. I wouldnt recommend it for someone who needs to scan mountain of papers daily. Things that I like about it: - Its great to travel with - small and fits in any briefcase. - Easy to use - my mother can use it. - SD card - Fast On/Off - Slick Things I dont like - Manual feed - Speed of scanning - No leeway in feeding error - If you dont feed it correctly, youll definitely bend your page. You have to hit it right on the money to feed it right.

> 3 dayWhen I started practicing law in the 1970s, I would lug what is still called a brief or trial bag to depositions and hearings. In it would be a huge mass of paper and a bunch of legal pads. At the end of the deposition, I would pack it all back up along with newly added exhibits and tote it back to the office where someone would ultimately file it away. Sometimes the dead weight would exceed twenty five pounds. Three years ago, I started carrying a portable scanner and a laptop to depositions. The scanner, a

> 3 dayMy original review was a very strongly worded negative review dealing with the power cord connector (wouldnt stay in the unit). It was a frustrating experience as I needed to have some documents scanned quickly. Within 12 hours of posting the review I received a call from the seller (Apparent) to discuss the problem. They asked a few questions, identified the problem as a possible short and promised a replacement unit would be delivered just a few days later (call was received Friday 12/20 and I had the replacement unit by Monday 12/23). Not only did they replace the unit but also threw in a few extras for my problem (battery recharger and batteries, case for the unit and some photo cards). While I am very impressed with the customer service (best I have seen so far for an internet sale) the question is how does the replacement unit work. a. First test was checking the power cord connection to the unit. while the initial unit saw the cord slipping in and out very easily the replacement cord has some sticking power to it. It feels solid and well connected (Yea). b. I scanned some paperwork and they scanned fine (always liked the scanning ability and the fact it could handle color) c. Transfer of files worked fine So overall I am quite happy with the unit and especially with the seller. Would definitely recommend the seller and so far the unit. I will test the unit for a few months and post how the cord connection holds up. Nice to have a positive outcome for a frustrating situation - Kudos to the seller for excellent treatment

> 3 day1. High Quality: This thing is worth every penny. I was hesitant to buy it initially, thinking it may degrade the quality of photos or what have you. Boy was I wrong. This not only retains the quality of a photo, but enhances it. I scanned tiny 2x1 photos, loaded the card into my PC, and it was like seeing the photo under a microscope. Brilliant! Youd never be able to tell the original was so tiny. My only complaint is that it doesnt handle Polaroids too well. They often get stuck midway, but I havent tried scanning anything with the provided sleeve. Didnt seem to be a problem with the itty bitty iZone strips though. Ive also used this to scan old letters (circa 1889) and recipe cards. It scans nice, crisp images. 2. Easy to use: This thing is literally plug and play. I havent connected it to my PC (because I dont have to). Just plug it the power, insert the provided SD card (which holds thousands, btw), push the on button until the light is solid, and start feeding the scanner! It pulls things through pretty quickly. I think I averaged about 300 scans an hour. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to digitize their lives. I plan on circulating it amongst family members and loading all of the images onto a photo sharing site to preserve everything. Its been a great way to share and retain family history.

> 3 dayUPDATE - I changed my rating from 3 stars to 5 based on a pleasantly surprising follow up by the company. The same day that I posted the original review, I received a call from one of Doxies customer service reps. She went through my concerns one by one, including items that were not covered in the review. Some things from that conversation that would be good to share: If you have a problem, call Doxie directly and they will do a product swap. Amazon will only do a return. Alkaline batteries will not work, you need to use Ni-MH rechargeable ones. She ended up sending me a set of the recommended Sanyo eneloops and the Doxie works great with them. Apparently it does say to use Ni-MH batteries on the battery cover underside but admittedly I didnt look at that (just took cover off, set aside, and re-installed) - might be better to put this on the bottom of the Doxie and not (only) the underside of the battery cover. Doxie went above and beyond! I appreciate that they ready the review and followed up to address my concerns - an EXTREMELY rare thing. But sending me the batteries, and addressing all of my concerns step by step left me absolutely dumbfounded. It would be safe to say that Im a customer for life and Ive shared this positive experience with anyone that will listen. Thanks Doxie - 5+ gold stars. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Fine scanner for this price point but unreliable with batteries - only somewhat portable This is my second Doxie One purchase. The first had to be returned because the connectors in the battery compartment were damaged and the unit could not be used with the batteries. On the plus side, customer service was great and there was no problem returning the defective unit even though I didnt attempt to use the batteries until I had the unit for a couple of weeks. Since they would not replace the unit, only allow a return, I purchased a second one. Based on my previous unit, I tried the batteries immediately and everything worked fine.....for 1 page. Then the unit seemed to not have adequate power to push the paper through the rollers. I tried installing new batteries and the unit could not even get 1 page entirely through the Doxie One. Frustrated, I plugged it in and the unit works fine - just not with batteries. I decided to keep the scanner and it works fine for my purposes. While I would like to be able to use it with batteries it is only mildly inconvenient that this is not a good option. The software is easy to use and I do like the staple feature. If you have a lot of things to scan, a big document, or pages that are 2 sided this is not a good option. Im also a disappointed on how it handles receipts that are long and narrow - something I have yet to find a good solution to handle - which is a major disappointment for me about the Doxie because it is one of the reasons I purchased

> 3 dayI was super-excited to receive my Doxie One with the goal of going (mostly) paperless in a household full of stacks of paper. Out of the box, it is pretty easy to get started. Plug it in. Calibrate it (all you do is feed the included calibrating card into the scanner). Scan away! Pros: - Virtually no set up time to get up and running. No annoying setup CD or pages of instructions to read before you get started. You install the software direct from their website. - Compact size by far, makes it superior to larger scanning options like all-in-ones. - Quick and quiet scanning. Im a pretty impatient person, but Im happy with the speed of this. - Comes with memory card so you dont even have to have it plugged into the computer to scan. Also nice if youre in a situation where you just want to share the card with someone else or save to cards instead of your hard drive/cloud. - Option for battery operation is nice to reduce cord clutter or for portable on-the-go scanning. - Easy to operate. I admit my daughter (almost 5 years) LOVES putting papers through here. I hand her a stack of papers and she scans them for me. - Most of all, Im really happy with how straightforward and user-friendly the software is. Several quick and easy options for saving, including a staple function for merging multi-page documents into a single PDF file and option to save as JPG. I hate reading lengthy instructions. This product has a simple set up, simple software, but all the functions I needed to dive into my paperless quest. Cons: - Sometimes feeder can be very fickle. Ive struggled every now and then with papers that are not perfectly flat. The slightest bend in a corner has made it so that the document would not feed through. In those instances, I scanned the document upside-down. The good news is since the software is easy to use, rotating documents is quick and easy. - AC adapter plug on the unit is ill-fitting, in my opinion. It doesnt really snap into place and loosens fairly easily. I love the small size of it and it just sits on our bar counter, where mail and bills and important papers usually pile up. Instead, the Doxie sits there and is ready to scan papers immediately before being disposed of. I originally used a large all-in-one during my first quest to go paperless. The advantage there was that it had the option to stick a stack of papers in and allow them to auto-feed, but Id often get jams and the software that came with it (A Brother all-in-one) was annoyingly difficult to navigate. If youre using the Doxie as a means of going paperless, its a bit of a time investment to get caught up if youve got stacks of paper. Once you reach the point of maintaining, its the perfect tool. Versatile, simple, and easy. Overall, Id give the Doxie One 4.5 stars. -------------------- Edit: A rep from Doxie contacted me regarding my statement in my review regarding the plug coming unplugged easily. She said it was a defect in some units and had me a new unit shipped right away. I sent back the old unit using prepaid postage from them, and the newer unit has a more secure plug. They have AMAZING customer service. The fact that they even spend time reading all reviews, even ones that are overall positive, and then addressing any issues speaks volumes about the company. They really want their customers to be completely satisfied. My Doxie is still getting regular use and Im still really happy with it.

Greater than one weekIve been using this device now for a good month and here are my impressions: Pros: -completely cleared up the paperwork that was sitting on my put away shelf, now the only stack I have is scanned, file away -the scanner is small and doesnt take up much room -it does a good job of scanning and the images look crisp and easy to read -the software used to import your scans is VERY EASY to use -stapling your documents is simple (i.e. creating a document with 12 pages as oppose of 12 documents with one page each) -exporting is a breeze -you can export multiple documents at a time (this will save you lots of time) -hardware quality is good but not top of the line Cons: -it does not scan legal size docs (if I had known that, I would have gotten the next version up) THIS: -it took me a while to figure out the best method of feeding the documents to the scanner (if you get one, you will see what Im talking about) because the scanner will start to auto feed when ready and yes, you will have plenty of miss feeds at the beginning of your adventure -exporting, especially when you select PDF with OCR (because, why not?) is slow Yes, I recommend it.

> 3 dayThis is one of the best scanners you can but at this price point right now. It just arrived today and right our of the box I put this thing through the tests. 250- 300 photos non-stop. This thing performed beautifully. I have just have a couple of complaints. Pros and Cons. Cons first. Con 1. The free software that comes with it is not the best. 3.5/5.0 Plus the editing software also had trouble decoding some of the pictures, because it could not translate it fully It just put a huge pink X where the picture was supposed to be. The editing software such as the cropping, saturation and stuff is okay. But hey, its free. Con 2. The Doxie did fail once out of the 250-300 photos I put through it. The scanner just stopped. Froze up. Easy fix though I restarted it, and went on my way. But I put very little fault on the product. I ran this thing much harder than it was supposed to go at one time. 3. This unit CANNOT scan directly to a computer. You have to take out the SD card then put it in your computer. I have a Mac. Late 2009 model. I do not have a SD card slot. Luckly this unit comes with a transfer cable just in case of this situation. But you HAVE to have a SD card. Again, This unit only scans to the SD card. PROS 1. This unit is flat out awesome. It scanned 250-300 photos non-stop with only 1 fault. 2. This unit comes with a 2 GB card. 2 GB can give you about 400 photos. 3. Comes with really cool accessories. Very cool photo protector as it goes through. If you have a very delicate/fragile piece of paper it keeps it from coming apart or being damaged while its scanning. It has a cleaning tool made out of plastic and a micro fiber cloth. and 4 different wall outlets just incase you go to different countries. 4. Super easy to setup. Very easy to read manual. 5. Simple Unit, not all these fancy buttons and gizmos. A 7 year old child could operate this machine. 6. It runs on a wall charger, plus rechargeable batteries (Not included) if you are not near wall. 7. Automatic shut off when not used. 8. Extremely quiet. No dying whale sounds coming from this unit. 9. If you are worried about the 300 DPI on photos, dont be. These photos look great at 300 Dpi. Left nothing to be desired. 10. For the money you pay. You definitely get your return on investment. Very happy buy with this. Will post updates if anything occurs with this product. Thank You.

> 3 dayI, like many others, had longed for the day that I could begin tackling all the clutter that had been piling up on my desk for years now. I never got around to it, simply because the task just seemed too daunting. After seeing a step by step guide on how to go paperless on Lifehacker, I decided to take the plunge and try this little guy out. Fortunately, I made the right decision. In a little under two days, I managed to scan and sort through three years worth of paperwork and neatly catalogue it all within Evernote. The best part is, I was able to do it all from my living room while watching television thanks to the Eye-Fi card that I purchased with it. The system as a whole is very intuitive: from the hardware itself to the software that you download and install with it. I did notice that it does sometimes suffer from an occasional quirk here and there, but nothing major. Probably the biggest flaw that I have found is that the paper guide moves back and forth a little too easily, so if you accidentally load a document crookedly, it will shift, thus allowing the document to continue to feed crooked, rather that straightening it as it feeds. Its a rather minor issue, and the scanning process is so easy that if you do notice that the document was fed incorrectly, you can simply run it through again and delete the flawed scan within the Doxie software. All in all, this is a great product that I would recommend to anyone who is thinking about going all digital.
