> 3 dayAs a gunsmith I deal with many abused platforms. This tap works wonders for chasing 6-40 screws like scope rings and small trigger group screw holes. Ordered and it showed up as promised.

> 3 dayThis 3-48 tap cut cleanly and easily, small taps are always a challenge. Very nice

> 3 dayThought a new 6-32 tap would be the right way to start a new project... It snapped on the second hole. Had to revert back to the one I had which got me through the next 22 holes.

> 3 dayBenchcrafted sends machine-threaded screws to attach the Retro Crisscross and Glide hardware for their renowned leg vise, rather than wood lag bolts/screws. Surprisingly for me, they actually worked quite well. This Bottom Tap has thread cutters almost to the end of the tool, allowing you to drill a hole slightly longer than the effective depth of the screw, unlike the taps available at big-box home improvement stores which have a longer distance between the full-sized cutting thread and the end of the tap. Since Im using it on Southern Yellow Pine, theres no appreciable wear on the tap while using it, and it was the right tool for this job.

25-11-2024I got two taps and a die from Drill America on this order. The taps are good/excellent but the hex die was a weird comically tiny nonstandard size (an M8x1.0 with a bizarre tiny 11/16 hex width almost like youd expect with the micro and jewelers tiny round dies or something). The M8 tap I received had to be returned but overall it was decently ground and good quality with some niggles in form/design compared to typical US made or US branded taps. This little 4-48 tap is great, though, darn close to US hss taps I normally use. The teeth are expertly ground and clean, angles seem right, both ends are finished cleanly. Ive only put one hole 1/4 deep into some mild steel but the action felt great and the threads were beautiful. Ill be angry-sad when this tap eventually snaps, as all the tiny ones eventually do, but initial impressions are excellent.
