ESAB 0700000480 Black Savage A40 Welding Helmet

I wanted to get into welding as cheap as possible to fix some odds and ends around my lake property. I looked at all of the cheaper offshore brands and many had compelling features at great prices. When reading reviews in depth their lens optics were mediocre to poor. More importantly various reports indicated they would flash you. This was something I critically wanted to avoid. This helmet is great optics wise and functionality wise. The settings work well and after having used it for approximately 6 hours (mostly a single day) I didnt have a since instance where I was looking at the sun. Comfort wise, I could see why you wouldnt want to wear this helmet all day everyday, but I dont think thats the target audience and its not what I needed. For my purposes it works extremely well. I can see clearly, can adjust settings easily and I can very much trust this to protect my eyes. This is a solid buy to go with otherwise cheap welding gear that gets my jobs done.

Much safer than my old shield. Haven’t been flashed once.

So far it’s as described and the real test is when I weld with it. Will update again once I put it to use!

Trouble with double vision using a cheater.

Adjusting the lens shade control from 9 to 13 didnt seem to lighten or darken the shade. It was always too dark for me to see what I was welding. I gave up on this helmet and bought a Lincoln Viking 3350 to replace it.

Hard to find a better deal for the money. You won’t go wrong here. You can find a higher quality product but you are going to be paying significantly more for it. Great value for money on a product that is going to work the way it’s advertised.

I didnt test it out in the field yet but its a good beginner helm!
