I ran out of space on my PS5 and this drive was just what I needed. It was easy to install thanks to the directions provided. The metal cover this comes with does look intimidating with its pointed spikes in the side. But it is harmless and that jagged side helps take it off if I ever need to. The drive is fast and cold. Happy to be able to install new games at hopefully a faster speed.

Easily Installable. The only negative part is that the instructions dont give great direction on backing files up or how to restore them. I had to look this part up online. Also, the instruction for un-installing the hard drive, are for older model PS4s, which mine is not. BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK - Compared to prices at a local shop such as Gamestop or Bestbuy, this product offers an amazing price. Not only are you getting the hard drive at a fraction of the price, you also get an 8 GB thumb drive and a good quality external hard drive chassis that allows you to transform your previous PS4 Hard drive into an external one for PC use. BACKING UP FILES - If you are looking to back up save files and are not worried about re-installing your games, make sure to export from each profile you want the save files from. These will need to be restored per profile. In my case, I backed up my main profile save files, but didnt realize it was only the main profile when attempting to restore the files. This required me to un-install the new hard drive, insert the old, back up the other profiles I cared about, and then re-install the new hard drive. Not too difficult, but time consuming. There is also an option to back EVERYTHING up, if you take the time to go through the file management options, and not just the save file back-up options. This may, as it would have in my case, taken more space than provided on the external thumb drive provided by the kit. FOR NEWER MODEL PS4s - The uninstall directions for the hard drive are for older models. On the newer models, the screw to remove the hard drive is in front, which then allows you to easily pull the hard drive out. The screw on mine required a drill to remove it, so be prepared.

It works great not one issue fits right and takes seconds to install and setup.

I dont have to wait 30mins installing a game. Worth every dang penny!! If you are asking for a sign whether to buy this or not, THIS IS YOUR SIGN. Just do it, you wont regret it. Update : 536GB transfer only takes 7minutes!!!

We werent quite sure how to install it in the beginning but once we contacted the company and they were able to walk us through it it was really easy to install. Other customer service was really friendly.

The speeds are fast, crazy fast Mine shows 6634mb on the ps5 read test... it loads faster (very noticeable amount faster) than the factory drive... the only complaint I have is the heatsink.... my ps5 has a plastic ridge/tab by the bay screw area and this heatsink wanted to sit ontop of that instead of inside of which made it lean at a slope and the screw couldnt line up straight.... I machined mine down to fit inside like the factory door but not everyone is willing nor should they have to do that... If i were doing it all over again I would buy the standard non kit version of this 2tb drive here on amazon for $129.99 and a $16.99 Sabrent heatsink and it will be as fast or faster than a western digital black , maybe even the cuda

Honestly I was on the fence about buying these things because Ive never upgraded a console before but was quick and easy and finally have enough storage to download some more games without moving stuff around or deleting stuff. So far so good!

REVIEWER ABILITY LEVEL: Im someone who was a self-taught geek, comfortable with figuring out/resolving software issues in computers. Hardware has always been intimidating because oopses cost more. As for mechanically inclined? Lucky to even know what a screwdriver is. Now I am operating with a brain injury making cognitive tasks more difficult. Been installed in unit for 1 week. Installed in 1st gen PS4. In my experience process was easy. The hardware swap took less than 10 minutes start-finish. Software took 30 minutes. Downloading...think Ill be doing that for the rest of my life but I am on rural internet (think dial up and be grateful - all games say 99+ hours for update files). TIPS: Other reviewers covered most so I will cover what I did not see (as I read a LOT of the reviews): - Perform this in a clean environment so you dont get dust/fur/food crumbs inside your machine/foul connections - File you want to download title = Full Install File 5.01 from the website listed in the instructions - Follow instructions exactly and youre golden. Dont? You might need to come back & buy a new HD kit or PS4. - One reviewer said there was a gap? No gaps/seam issues in my install. My finished product looks stock. Is not. :-) - When re-installing games or update files, if like me and long download times I might suggest not running it constantly for long periods of time as it might overheat or burn out while you sleep causing the HD to fail or motherboard/other components to overheat or fail (esp. if older model). - Mine had a nice little bag for the 500 HD enclosure - Screwdriver & screws are in small bag that you have to look for (mine were in baggie for HD bag which was inside empty baggie for 500HD case - didnt find till almost end of install). CONCLUSION: 2 TB drive is running well, no issues so far. Will be nice (some day) to have all my games on there. haha Is nice to no longer have everyone go flying past me in Destiny or be throwing grenades at me angrily as I sit there with LOADING... flashing across my screen and my Fireteam saying nasty things to me. Working up the guts to crack my machine (& not fry it) took more time than actually installing the HD. The average adult can install this, even those who would define themselves as mechanically challenged. A second person might be needed but only to help find the screws if you drop them (before the cat does!) and someone has to be the first to go down once the gaming can commence. With other drives like the Firecuda etc really pushing the limits of write and read speeds the Venom8 claiming to be even speedier crept in past all the others (kinda like a FAMTOM DRIVE hyuck hyuck) at a more reasonable price to boot and what is claimed here seems to not just be boasting. For the price point this is a top tier M2 SSD and will give whatever you slap this puppy into the juice you want. Of course like any other M2 drives installation is fairly simple if using this on PS5 just carefully remove your plates look for the M2 installation slot, remove the lid then remove the screw which should be by default where youre going to replace it after you carefully slide the drive into its slot (after applying recommended heatsink of your preference)...replace screw and ofcourse lid and enjoy the new storage you have....its literally dummy proof. A laptop or desktop should be just as simple. Moral being this is a well priced and powerful M2 and will make whatever you place it into sore like an eagle. Recommended highly...comes in a nice package too.
