> 3 dayI bought a cheaper component from a different mfg at the local big box hardware. It was made of a different plastic, about half the price. Well, it failed dramatically about 3 weeks later, cracking into pieces inside the valve. Luckily I was home at the time and could shut the water off. This part may seem expensive but the plastic is engineered to take the load, lasts years.

> 3 dayOnce the old one could be removed, the installation was simple and straightforward ... the multiple YouTube videos were also very helpful. The price was a bit high, but given the lack of availability in Texas after the winter storm and the quick deliver it was worth it.

Greater than one weekAs one of the SE Texas residents who spent more than a day without electricity/heat and temps that dropped to 10 degrees, I was lucky that I had no water pipes burst in my home but was not so lucky with my sprinkler system. I had wrapped it and thought I shut off the valves. Unfortunately I had turned them off in November and forgot, so I ended up turning them back on. Doh! We almost never see temps this low. Last year, the temp never got below freezing. I was lucky that my neighbor was out checking on his home and saw the water spraying out of my back flow preventer and shut the valves off. Then, 34,000 gallons later, I chipped the ice off the brick and saw the parts that failed. I was lucky and grabbed the repair parts before the prices tripled. It was a very simple repair that anyone can do. This item fits the majority of Febco back flow preventers. Besides these two pieces that break the easiest, there is another white plastic part that is below the metal plate and large spring. I checked mine and that part did not fail. It took less than five minutes total to replace the parts and I’m back in business. Because of the massive number of failures in my state, people were paying hundreds of dollars for the repair. The other good thing is these replacement parts appear to be of higher quality than the parts that were in the factory part.
