Filemaker Pro 11 Upgrade [Old Version]

Here we are on version 11 of Filemaker, one of the only desktop databases for the MAC.

I have version 12 but needed v11 to collaborate and this fit the bill most excellent. plus four more words.

This software is fun, very useful, user friendly and has very professional qualities and capabilities.

FileMaker Pro 11 is the best version of this database software to-date. Its internal charting ability is worth the price of admission by itself

Allegedly, this was supposed to upgrade my FileMaker 8 to FileMaker 11, according to the descriptive text. It did not. Calls to FileMaker support were not helpful. I returned the software to Amazon, but Amazon hasnt credited my account.

Ive been a heavy FileMaker user since it was first available in the late 80s. For a number of years, I ran a midsize business using FileMaker. Best Mac database manager there is, as far as Im concerned. My main gripe is the exorbitant price of the upgrades. The upgrade path should be less expensive once youve made the initial purchase. FileMakers upgrades are sometimes close to the cost of the full version.

Make sure you have the right version to upgrade from. I have an older version I tried to upgrade, but when I tried it could not find a previous version. So now I am trying to get another version.

I upgraded from FMP 8. Installation went smoothly and all my databases and scripts run well. My only disappointment is that I had hoped to be able to sync with iPad Filemaker Go, but cant. I can add records on the iPad, then replace the file on my iMac with the iPad file, but they dont sync.

DO NOT BUY. Avoid buying anything from FileMaker at all costs. This software may seem easy and simple at first, but can easily spiral out of control. Queries will become slow. Support is poor. Online documentation is not helpful. Problems for 3-4 years ago are still problems in the newer versions. Do not expect them to patch anything in the older versions once newer versions come out. You have to constantly repair the databases and archive data just to keep the system stable. Need something really helpful? If you are lucky you might find a plugin that does what you want, as it is not native to filemaker. Server and clients fail at utilizing memory and cpu. Either does not use them at all, or will consume it all. No troubleshooting tools AT ALL(my personal reason for disliking this software). Filemaker will get stuck, freeze, and crash, but fails to tell you why it did any of that. Ive worked with a couple of these versions, and every time it has been an overwhelming nightmare to work with. Only way I would recommend using this is if you have someone with experience developing in filemaker....lots of experience

Transfer worked well. I was just using it as a step between Filemaker 9 and 14, so I just didnt want data corrupted. Seems to have done well.
