Magnet it not powerful enough to hold tape. Slides on bare steel.

This little thing is the balls. The magnet on it is nice and strong held in there with this plastic coating to easily wipe away metal shavings and dust. I love it and really ideal thing to have if your working alone sticking the dumb end of a tape measure to pipe and I beams all day.

This little thing has come in handy! I use it all the time! There are times when a torpedo level is too big and this thing is perfect!

Thing works great whrn its only try to layout or messure long distance strong magnet and durable.

I use this thing all the time now. Layout and drawing on the table, layout on pipe in the bender, bending pipe, checking others layouts...It is surprisingly strong and holds the tape well on flat surfaces. My only complaint is that I would like to see the larger magnet a bit more powerful to hold on at a bend when checking transition points. Awesome product!

Love it. Use it all the time comes in very handy

Ive used it every day works great. The only problem I had was the round magnet on the side fell off but I found it and super glued it back.

Great when you are working alone.
