I have a bathroom outlet that is not a trippable GFCI and I had no way of knowing if it was wired in series with a GFCI and thus protected. I plugged the tester into the outlet, pressed the test button and sure enough the outlet became dead. I thought I just had to locate the primary GFCI and reset it. But when it would not reset I went to the panel The test button had also tripped a breaker in the panel. I recycled the breaker and then, of course, was able to reset the GFCI which in turn powered up the outlet I was questioning. So, yes, it did exactly what I wanted and saved me from unnecessarily replacing the outlet in question with a GFCI.

-- so if youre doing your own house-wiring or a job with GFI breakers in the panel, this will check your work.

Works well to ensure my electrical is working correctly in my RV when I hook up to shore power - and prior to turning on any of my major appliances. My only criticism is that it is easy to hit the GFP button, which then trips breakers which I have to reset. But at least I know that feature works as well!

Works good and indications are accurate. My only complaint is the legend (key) of what the lights mean printed on the device cannot be read. The little ovals indicating on/off combinations are impossible to see. You cannot tell if the little oval is indicating on or off unless in bright light with the aid of magnification.

The price is great. However, the two flat prongs are not properly aligned when the unit is viewed from the side. Consequently, the unit is very difficult, and in some cases impossible, to insert in to some outlets. The first unit I received was exchanged due to this issue and the second item still had plugs that were not properly aligned, but were better. This is clearly some manufacturing (or design) error and should be addressed. However, for such a low price, its tolerable.

I used a Gold Marker Pen to mark all of the Dark Orange dots on the label to a Gold Color. No way - for me - to quickly spot the difference between red dots and dark orange dots. Message to the manufacturer: please use “a light yellow color” instead of the dark orange color.

This is good for a quick basic check of your outlets. Lights are easy to see and the reference guide to the meanings of the lights is right on the device. It was able to accurately detect an issue I had with some old wiring. Depending on your issue you may still need a multimeter and/or a licensed electrician.

I own a small construction company that focuses on reside and commercial renovation; I used this often as it is a great time saving device that is incredibly durable and accurate!

Use it when you want to do a quick troubleshooting and dont want to take your multimeter out of your toolbox. It can tell you if youre wiring is ok or it has some problems which you can later on investigate more with your other tools. At this price its a must for every toolbox.
