I am a long distance cyclist. I was able to link the Garmin Edge 1030 to my smart phone and download a course from ridewithgps. The Edge was easy to use for short rides and I was easily able to upload them to Strava. However, when I attempted a 400K ride this past Saturday with the external battery pack the unit ran out of power much earlier than expected (about 10 hours vs the expected 40 hours). Had to go into battery conserve mode, but unit eventually went dead. I suspect there could have been a problem tapping into the external battery. Both the Edge 1030 and external battery pack were fully charged prior to the 400K. Also, the unit can easily steer you in the wrong direction if the ride with gps course has overlapping sections. I found that out the hard way by going off course over the high bridge E of Ft Pierce FL.

The things I like about my 1030 Plus is the battery last a Long time before it needs recharging!!!! My 820 garmin needed to be charged after only a few hours of use. The 1030 Plus operates smoothly in every way

I love the editable data fields, multiple screens that can be edited, and the overall functionality. I am totally into glancing at progress and trip data on my rides, and this 1030 Plus has everything I could ask for. I have had no problem at all, and it has been very accurate over the 300+ miles Ive rode with it. Battery life is also great, and will last through 4-5 of my 25-30 mile rides easily.

I am a cyclist for over 30 years. I know bike computers. Garmin 1030 is IMPOSSIBLE to program. The layout and organization of the options available is poorly designed and very difficult to navigate. After watching 5 videos and reading the scant instruction booklet twice i was unable to program my device to simply track my cadence. Unless you have a computer program as a spouse I wouldnt waste time on this device. ANY OTHER brand will deliver great information without the frustration, headaches and aggravation. Garmin tried so hard to make this device fancy that they overlooked ease of use and dont care if you understand their logic. Customer support had no idea what a Garmin 1030 looked like - it was some lame customer support service that doesnt even know the product.

Bought this for my wife for her birthday. She is a tri-athlete and AVID cyclist. She will be riding the Gap and C & O trails (Pittsburgh to Wash DC) in August so I thought it made sense to have a little technology onboard.

Remarkable step up from the Garmin Edge 1000.

I have owned quite a few different Garmin products. The form, fit and function of this Edge 1030 Plus is amazing. With the addition of the silicone case, it is a great package that I would recommend to anyone with the money to spend on this high end unit. I already had the speed, cadence, and heart rate monitors, so the transition from the Edge 1030 to the Plus was almost seamless.
