This is a story that will keep you reading . This author takes technology that few of us can understand and makes you feel like you are a part of it. In todays world , this is definitely a topic you feel could hit close to us all. G.E.M. kept my interest from beginning to end. I hope this is just the beginning from Ms. Goode. Definitely , I will be watching for more.

I really enjoyed this book, it is well written and is an easy read. The author has made a highly technical subject easy to understand. It has a great story line and keeps you in suspense to the end. I hope for many more from this new author.

This vibrant fictional story illustrates the aftermath of a natural disaster by combining the struggle between modern science and a race against time for an ultimate thrill. While the author provides strikingly sound chemical and biological references, its also eerie in how it relates to the current happenings in Japan and sets a tone for similar threats they could be facing. An absolutely stimulating novel from breakthrough author Ms. Goode!

This is a great scientific base novel which had me guessing the entire time. In fact it was so interesting that I could not put the book down once I reached page 200. There are plenty of scientific facts that you almost feel that this is a how to text book. The story flows and has several twists which keep you guessing. This would be a great book club suggestion, especially if you like to research the information provided in the story. I can personally verify a lot of the information referenced in the novel when it comes to security procedures. I highly recommend this book.

Like Michael Crichton, Ms. Goode is skilled at blending science fiction, science fact and thriller elements. G.E.M. is an exciting first novel by Carol Goode. Her fictional characters are warm and real. Suspense builds rapidly as the original plot transforms from a natural disaster with a short deadline to overcome, to a bigger man-made disaster with an impossible deadline! It felt as though this fictional story could have actually happened. I highly recommend this novel and hope there are more to follow from this gifted writer. G.E.M. would make a great movie!

I was very engaged with the potential reality of the story. I love to read suspense and this book delivered right up to the end. The characters come to life with the descriptive and personal writing by the author. A great read!!

In G.E.M., not only does Ms. Goode skillfully breathe life into fictional characters, she imaginatively gives birth to the possibility of a new breed of genetically enhanced microbes. Perhaps this will be Hanfords newest legacy!

G.E.M. brings to life the next generation of technology issues and solutions to modern day disasters / issues. Ms. Goode easily weaves futurist bio-technology & science with a cast of characters that keep you bound to this intriguing adventure in dealing with nuclear disaster.

If you like mysteries that evolve around scientific facts, you will like this book. If you have ever wondered about what happens to the waste from nuclear power plants, G.E.M. will keep you interested until the last page. And when finished reading, you will be asking if all this is possible and what can actually be done with these molecules in todays world. So sit back and enjoy the read. Once involved in the plot you wont be able to put it down until you reach the end.

The story is engaging and suspenseful . . . no end of surprises! And the author obviously has a lot of knowledge about the scientific aspects as well as the whole Richland site and community, which adds to the texture and richness of the story. I definitely recommend it!
