This filter is much more sturdy and thick than the cheaper ones. They are made and recommended by carrier. They have more structure on them including a rubberized gasket type thing that helps to secure the filter to the AC

Hello: These work well. Our house was new and I replaced these after less than a month. We have 2 air handlers therefor 2 filter with prefilters. All were replaced at the same time. The MERV 15s were wet, filled with cement dust, and still somehow passed air, without breaking. The electrostatic units (Frame assemblies) had to be removed and taken outside for cleaning and drying. They were that dirty. The clean side of the air handler was still clean, so they worked. The duct work between the pre-filters and the Merv 15s was somewhat dirty. What more can I say.
