This is a copy of the original SpringTools nail set tool, and like most of the copies out there, it’s a little cruder, it doesn’t work quite as well, and it’s not much cheaper. My SpringTools nail set is over 20 years old and still works fine. It’s made in the US, and the company has a good warranty, too.

This review is for Glieskir Spring Loaded Nail Set Tools,2-PCS Dual Head Nail Setter and Hinge Pin Punch Set, Hammerless 1/16″& 3/32″Spring Nail Set, Super Strong Force Door Pin Removal Tool, Glieskir Item model number PinPunch-1 (ASIN B0BXWTV29D). The tools arrived very quickly and were packaged in a heavy reclosable plastic bag. I confess that at first I was confused about how to use these tools. All of the other nail sets Id ever used required a hammer, but theres no way to use a hammer with these. When I ordered these tools, in my minds eye Id pictured something which operated like a spring loaded center hole punch -- push down slowly and after an inch or so of travel it would impact the pin internally. But thats not how these tools work. To use the Glieskir tools, place the tip of one end against the nail to be set and PULL the other end away from the nail. Stretch the spring for an inch or two and then release. The spring retracts and hammers the nail in a bit. It works remarkably well! I gave the hinge pin punch a try and found that it works just fine. Use the narrow end to remove a hinge pin or the wide end to insert a hinge pin. I doubt that Ill have much use for this tool, though. I wish theyd put a center punch (a sharp pointy tip) on the opposite end of the hinge pin remover, Im sure Id use that much more often than a hinge pin inserter.

I mainly got this set for removing hinge pins and it seems to work well for that. It’s pretty simple in that it has 2 pieces which are connected by a spring. You simply stretch the spring then let go of one end so that it produces an impact. I was unsure if it would produce enough impact to remove a door hinge pin, however it moved the hinge pin on the first impact. For this I give it 5 out of 5 on Oilboy’s Slainte scale.

I work at a woodworking shop and the boss came in with a set of these. Once trying them out I knew I had to have a set of my own. These seem just as nice as the ones my boss had. I am happy with them so far. The spring seems nice and over all they seem sturdy. These will come in handy.

This nail set hinge punch set gets the job done, but I am not sure how well it will hold up. To use the nail set, you position it over the nail you would like to set below the surface, pull back on the spring, and let it snap down and drive the nail. To test it, I drove two 4d finish nails into a piece a fir board, leaving the nail heads slightly proud. I then used the nail set to drive them below flush (see the photo with a before and after for one of the nails). The nail set did the job, but I noticed that the tip of the nail set was slightly damaged after this simple test. It developed burs and it appears that the plating is beginning to flake. This is more damage than I would expect after setting only two nails. Time will tell how well this will hold up, but I am not confident that this will be a long lasting tool, so I give it 3 stars.

This no hammer design is great for tight spaces and to keep from smashing fingers.

Since moving I have had to remove hinge pins numerous times, as well as hanging pictures, fixing baseboards, etc. This set is great for helping me with these tasks. Start with what I found to be an essential part of this set, the hinge pin remover. The previous owner of my house painted over ALL the hinge pins, so removing them with a punch and hammer was maddeningly difficult and impossible in some cases (some were even rusted). This tool works like a charm: three or four “snaps” and my hinge pins can be removed by traditional means. This has saved me lots of frustration and I can now finish some jobs I had to put on hold. The nail sets in this kit are also extremely useful: first, for setting finish nails in baseboard and crown moulding, where using a hammer and traditional nail set can be difficult. You can set the nails without damaging the trim. The other useful thing these nail sets are great for (and what i use them the most for) is to mark a spot where I want to put a screw or nail, or drill a hole: the indentation they leave allows me to be spot-on and prevents the screw or drill bit from ‘walking’ on me. This is especially useful when installing hinges. If you are trying to set nails that are bigger than finishing nails, this set is not what you want, but for the average home DIYer it is a good set to have at a decent price.

Ive owned and lost plenty of spring punches over the years. Im happy to say this one is just like all the others. Super handy tool to put in a tool belt or even just your pocket. Im a residential maintenance tech and these things are awesome to have from setting nails to popping doors off hinges and I dont need to carry around my hammer to do it either. All said I have owned better versions of these punches but Ive also owned worse. These will certainly get the job done though

I was really looking forward to using these; I had several boxes of build it yourself furniture and bookshelves and was hoping this tool would make the process of nailing the backing panels easier. After several attempts, I gave up and went back to the hammer. Maybe Im trying to use them for the wrong stuff. They are built well and durable, they seem to be quality, heavy gauge. Ill be trying these with other scenarios to see what they work best for.

Got this for various reasons, from driving something down in a tight location like a hinge pin to marking the spot i need to drill. The quality is superb, and they are so easy to use. Ive already had several uses for them, driving some hinge pins down, which worked better than i could have imagined. These are a definite must in any tool box.
