I was looking for a decently big sized backpack just because Im transitioning into university, and I needed something that had a lot of padding and enough space for my books/laptop. I own a 13 inch MacBook Pro that I carry around (the backpack holds up to 15 inches), four notebooks, and miscellaneous things like my laptop and phone charger. If youre looking to carry around large books and notebooks, I would look into getting another backpack because I find that I cant fit large books into this backpack. The only complaint is the flap, you have to keep opening it and closing it which was annoying at first but I got used to it. The small opening in the front, I only use for my charger because thats all the space I have. Overall, very worth the purchase at a good price. I believe that other websites do have these for discounts though, so use Amazon as a last resort.

This is hands down the best backpack Ive ever had. It is extremely durable. I use it every single day and its appearance hasnt changed a bit. Also the interior storage area is massive! You can fit a ridiculously amount of stuff in there. It has an awesome sleeve that comfortably fits a 15 inch Macbook Pro. I can also fit a full set of clothes, jacket, shoes, and large headphones in there without any issue. The front pocket is great for putting your keys in or anything else you need quick access to. The best part of the backpack has to be the back padding though. It is such a comfortable backpack, that you dont mind carrying out a ton of weight because the gel padding feels great. Also because its long the weight feels more evenly distributed. Ive gotten many compliments about it being stylish as well. The leather straps are definitely a big hit!

I love this backpack! It looks great and it holds a lot of stuff. I do use a packing cube to keep my clothing organized and separate from the other contents. I can fit two days worth of outfits, travel skin care elements, travel sized flat iron, hairbrush, two to three paperback books (or a laptop), mirrorless camera with long lens, and a water bottle. The backpack is comfortable when loaded, but the structured fabric keeps its shape even when its fully packed. I look forward to traveling just so I can use this backpack. My only complaint is the lack of external water bottle pocket for easy access.

This is both my sons favorite brand as far as backpacks, they’ve only been using this brand for years. The quality is very strong and it is durable and trendy! However this particular one is much heavier than their normal backpacks due to the leather straps and buckled.... my son wanted to try a different look than he typically goes and he liked the buckle look, he regret it soon after putting it on his back with his little bit of school supplies! It was uncomfortable to wear. He walks a bit of a distance from the bus stop and the added weight on his back would only wear him down by the time he gets home... maybe if he didn’t have to carry on his back for long periods of time it would’ve worked out better! We’ve decided to return and just buy the Hershel’s basic style backpack for him. I do recommend this brand as it’s proven itself throughout the many years my sons have been using it, although I would suggest this style since it is heavier.

Im a girl and Im 57. I debated between getting the mid volume or the regular sized Little America, and Im really glad I got mid volume. I have a thin frame so the backpack fits me just right. Its not to big or too small. Theres enough room my my computer (the fleece lined compartment is so nice that I dont carry my macbook in a case anymore), two 1.5in binders, a medium sized textbook, and my lab coat. The padding on the straps are heavenly. Its kind of unfortunate that theres no side strap for a water bottle, but it doesnt bother me too much. The front pouch is kind of useless, and a little hard to access (in general getting your stuff in and out of any compartment in the bag will take more time, but its worth it. This backpack is really nice and totally worth the money. I grew up with Jansport backpacks, but now that Ive tried Herschel, Im never going back. If you get the backpack, a pro tip is always rest the backpack with the straps facing up. I caught my mistake early, but the ends of my straps got a little frayed because I wasnt resting it right.

This is an honest review from a real purchaser. This is an extremely popular backpack at my College/Grad school, but it’s not as externally durable as people would think. The stitching on 2 of the bands that the leather straps integrate with simply unraveled on their own after a few months of light use for school. Also, the posterior sides of the leather straps are prone to random breakage, leaving the anterior sides still attached. The bag is still very aesthetically pleasing, so I’m going to sew the bands back on with matching thread, and use superglue to reconnect the straps integrity. In contrast to the external side, the internal portion of the bag is very durable and the cushioning protects laptops very well from any kind of drops. After the straps and band were already broken, I decided “what-the-heck” and went ahead and tested washing the bag for the first time (on a Cold/Delicate machine cycle). Surprisingly, it cleans in the washing machine very well without any issues. The bag came out of the dryer looking brand new. I like how the bag looks and feels, it’s just the issue of external durability that this company should work on. I suggest adding more stitching to the ends of the bands that articulate with the leather straps, and applying a coating to posterior side of the leather straps to prevent the leather from random breakage.

I have to give it five stars for me personally, since it is exactly what I wanted - but, I do feel like I should be clear that its a bit of an odd size. It would be very large for an everyday back-pack. On the other hand, its not huge like a good hiking pack, either. I really did not want something that looked like camping gear. I dont camp. Im not sports-y. I would feel like a fraud carrying something from REI - but I needed something bigger than your average large back-pack. And thats the niche the Herschal Little America sits in. We went to France for eight days, and the Herschel was perfect for my needs - BUT, I also had a large tote bag. I probably could have eliminated a few things and done with just the Herschel - but, it would have been tight. As it was, the Herschel + tote was about exactly right. There are no dividers or pockets - just the laptop sleeve and a couple too-small-to-be-useful pouches - but I never use the organizers features when I have them, anyway; Im-a-toss-it-in-and-go kinda girl. (I have to say that I love the lining - totally makes the bag for me.) It seems solidly made and the straps and padding are all modern and up-to-date. Like I said - its not a hiking pack, so its not a highly engineered, ergonomic wonder - but it was reasonably comfy for this indoor girl to carry through airports and the jaunt from the bus station to the hotel, etc. Im very pleased with it. I would recommend it highly, provided you check the measurements against your needs.

I got this for work/school to replace an old Jansport backpack that is finally falling apart. I got the hideous purple bag at 50% off back when I was an undergrad on a tight budget. It took a beating, for years, and I wanted a new bag that is at least as durable, and not purple. Well see what happens with time, but this Herschel definitely looks and feels like it can take some abuse. A note about the buckled straps. Theyre aesthetic. Dont unbuckle them. I saw the reviews where people complained about the straps cracking and tearing. When I first got the bag I unbuckled them, thinking that it was the only way to open the bag. And then as I struggled to get them loose, the very end of the strap broke loose from the bag. I thought I broke it before realizing that it was a magnetic clip. The straps are stiff and would be a real pain if you had to unbuckle them every time you need to open the bag.
