I got this as a gift for my girlfriend and she is hooked on it. Shes taken French in school and was brushing up on her fluency. Needless to say, shes hooked. Cant get her away from it. Plays for hours at a time. I also have Spanish and Chinese and find them to be extremely helpful and useful in learning the languages. Pennies on the dollar compared to Rosetta Stone and just as good.

This program isnt cohesive at all; it seems to be a bunch of programs packaged together without an overall plan. I really dont think anyone could actually learn a language from this.

I have a friend from France. She speaks several languages, and well, I only know one (English). I wanted to, yknow, impress her a bit, show her that Im more internationally minded than other people. I picked up this program and used it for a bit. I learned quite a bit of words that I didnt know before and was able to earn a smile from her, that was great.

Should have read the fine print as this product does not function properly with Windows 7. Partway through Level 2, the PC reported problematically huge memory use (my PC has 9 GB RAM)! While playing and recording my pronunciation, the machine repeatedly stopped functioning rendering the program useless beyond that point. Each disc is a separate program to be installed and that disc must be inserted to run the program. Very old fashioned style graphics and interface. Learned some vocabulary but thats about it. It may play better on a Windows XP machine.

Since the software doesnt teach you how to conjugate, I use google translate to comprehend what I am learning, instead of memorizing phrases; anyway the software is teaching me that Where is the shop? is Ou se trouve le magasin. From studying some of the phrases, I noticed that is, is usually est and that google translate confirmed my concern by translating the same pharse to: Ou est le magasin. Are the French simplfying their language or is this software negligence?

I absolutely detested this course. The most annoying thing was watching the characters on the screen move their mouths completely out of sync with the words being spoken. It was like watching that 80s character, Max Headroom. I like Max, but I dont want him trying to teach me French.
