01-06-2025Itoya has 6 different Profolio lines. They include the original Art Profolio, the Art Profolio Advantage, the Art Profolio Expo, the Art Profolio Evolution, the Art Profolio Multi-Ring Binder, and the Art Profolio Professional. A few things that all of the Profolio lines have in common, regardless of the line your referring to, is that they are archival, 100% acid free, and the pages come with acid free black mounting paper. Again, that is true for every Profolio line. Itoyas Art Profolio line, also referred to as the original Art Profolio, was Itoyas first line in the Profolio series and is also the most economical. They come with a hard polypropylene cover that is black with a grey spine. These covers are pretty durable and will last a good long while. I mostly used this line back when I was in art school (1996-1999) and I still have those portflios to this day. All in all they age pretty well. The only downside to the hard polypropylene covers is if you store more than one portfolio side by side, they can actually leave scuff marks and scratches from rubbing up against one another when you happen to pull one out. If you store more than one side by side, my advice is to put a piece of cardboard between them. That will prevent any scuff marks or scratches when pulling one out Since this is one of Itoyas most popular lines, it comes in a wide range of sizes, from 4 x 6 all the way up to 18 x 24. Here is the complete list of sizes that are available with the Original Art Profolio line: 4 x 6 5 x 7 8 x 10 8-1/2 x 11 9 x 12 11 x 14 11 x 17 13 x 19 14 x 17 16 x 20 17 x 22 18 x 24 16-1/2 x 23-3/8 (A2 size) IA-12-A3 11-3/4 x 16-1/2 (A3 size) IA-12-A4 8-1/4 x 11-3/4 (A4 size) IA-12-A6 4-1/8 x 5-7/8 (A6 Size) Itoya has 2 different kinds of pages that they use in their 6 Profolio lines. They have thier standard pages and a line of pages called Polyglass pages. Polyglass pages are Itoyas highest quality pages. In all honesty, they are some of the highest qualiy pages you will find on the portfolio market and are just crystal clear and very high in quality. The only Profolio lines that come with Polyglass pages are the Profolio Advantage and the Profolio Professional. The Profolio Multi Ring Binder is designed for use with Polyglass pages, but you have to buy the pages separately. The Original Art Profolio, the Art Profolio Expo, and the Art Profolio Evolution all come with Itoyas standard pages. The biggest different between the standard pages and the Polyglass pages lies in the clarity of the pages. The standard pages have a slight milky appearance and are more akin to a 3-4 mil. poly-bag. Thier more pliable and can actually stretch if you pull on them. The Polyglass pages are again just crystal clear and are more akin to mylar, both in appearance and feel. Its more like an extruded film and is far more stable. It wont stretch no matter how hard you pull. The Polyglass pages are more expensive so it makes perfect sense that Itoya would go with thier standard pages with this line as again, this is really Itoyas economical Profolio line. In the end, it really comes down to just how much you want to spend and just what level of quality you want. For the price, Itoyas Original Art Profolio Line is a great line of portfolios. You will be very hard pressed to find a more affordable portfolio that gives you this level of quality. I have Original Art Profolios that are over 15 years old and they are still in very good condition. And since all of Itoyas Profolio lines are archival and 100% acid free, your artwork will be safe no matter which Profolio line you choose. That being said, I actually prefer Itoyas Polyglass pages now as once you get used to the level of clarity of those pages....well, its very hard going back to Itoyas standard pages. I personally recommend using Itoyas Profolio Professional line if you can afford it. That is really my go to line of portfolios as they come with Polyglass pages and they have a padded leatherette cover, which I have come to prefer over the hard polypropylene covers in Itoyas other Profolio lines. The padded cover makes viewing the portfolio a much more comfortable expereince. Again, it really comes down to how much you want to spend and what kind of quality your looking for. If you have the ability to view Itoyas various portfolios first hand before buying them, I highly recommend doing so. That will let you see the difference between Itoyas standard pages and Itoyas Polyglass pages and it will also let you see the difference between the various covers. Bottom line - You really cant go wrong with any of Itoyas Profolio portfolios. They are all archival, 100% acid free, and come with acid free mounting paper. The differences in the various lines has to do with the quality of the pages and the type of cover your getting. And while Itoyas standard pages arent as nice as thier Polyglass pages, thier still perfectly suitable to storing your artwork. Again, if you have the ability to see Itoyas various portfolios first hand, I highly recommend doing so. That will give you a much better idea of what your going to get with each line. If your looking for an economical archival portfolio, you will be very hard pressed finding a portfolio better than Itoyas Original Art Profolio. For the price, its without question one of the best lines of portfolios on the market. 4 Stars!
