Very disappointed - Klein Tools is a recognizable brand and I expected better quality. I used a pinless moisture meter for years at work - that one cost $300 plus but gave me a good understanding of what to expect from readings. Cut, split, and dry hardwood that was cut 2 plus years ago and stored in a shed read 6% - impossible. Wood takes on ambient moisture, and even in a shed would have a 10-15% moisture reading. Hardwood I cut, split and stacked a few weeks ago reads 8% along the split surface and maxes out (40+%) on the cut end - same piece of wood. Its ridiculous. Just turning the meter on produces a 8% reading when the sensor isnt touching anything. I tossed the box out so I wont return it but I certainly would recommend others to avoid this one.

Got this because we had moisture in some outer walls where sheathing bowed out. After sealing things I wanted to make sure it was sealed and see if some other hidden areas need work but it seemed like it either reported a low moisture level or excessive moisture with nothing inbetween. Also little context on results. Seems like it is meant for stored lumber and drywall rather than in-place materials but hard to tell if its doing anything useful.

I bought this because of a disaster. I had actually two contractors, because the first got fired half way through, who didnt cover my roof for almost a whole month during down pours and snow. My house was literally raining inside! I showed the project manager whom I thought was the contractor how much water was running down my walls. This is the space in my living room between two windows. He said, what does OL mean? Really? OVERLOAD. It is overloaded with water! I just laid my hand on the wall and showed him all the water on my hand. Do you know what his response was? Its our of my scope of work. This happened January/February of 2021. I am actually sitting here in paperwork up to the ceiling ready to go fight this head on to the lead people in charge of this program in Washington DC.. No lawyer or contractor will help. Long story and I cant say much. But it is showing proof that my house is ruined. It is a very expensive home renovation loan.

If you want to know what the moisture content of your wood is this is not the correct tool. Its accuracy is +-4% so if it reads 8% on the meter your wood could be as high as 12% or as low as 4% and thats a substantial change. It also changes its measurement if your hand is near it or not. Just testing this I saw a reading of 7.1% on construction lumber (seems crazy low) go up to 8.9% if I put my entire hand over it. Thats a measurement increase of 25.3%! If you has position has the potential to swing your reading by 25% this doesnt seem like its even remotely accurate.

I had a leak under a 2nd floor bathtub, so a small area in the room below had drywall damage. I used this meter to check the moisture for both wood and drywall. Easy to read, very well marked on the device itself so you can see what the expected range of moisture should be.

So I waited 10 months to give this product a review. I work as a home inspector and I use this device almost everyday. My one and only complaint is how easy this thing powers on while in my tool pouch. I wish there was a way to protect the power button or perhaps a double push of the power button. Other then that I have had zero issues. I like the size of the readings. I photograph moisture readings and the size is great, and shows up well on pictures.

I bought this pin-less moisture meter specifically because it states it can read moisture to a depth of 3/4, and to measure the moisture in my fire wood. Its easy to use, no doubt, but is it accurate? I got suspicious passing the device over some pieces of cut wood and getting iffy readings, so I did a simple test: stick the device on my bare forearm: off the scale as expected; then over my shirt pressing on the forearm (so thats, what, 1/32?) and the reading is on the scale and around 20% moisture. So, yeah, just about useless for fire wood. It might work well for drywall, but given the above results I dont know that I can trust it.

Great for checking water/moisture under hardwood flooring that is 3/4 inches thick. The screen is easy to read.

Seems to be giving acurate readings. Came with dead battery which amazon replaced.

We had seen a clear water stain but it was hard to remember whether or not it was there before. Since we thought it was fresh, we wanted a way to test that would not damage the wall. Picked up this item and within moments after opening the package were able to detect that the stain was fresh. As a result we were able to get repair work underway before the next rain. Awesome tool.
