The oil filter already had a pre oiled gasket with a plastic seal covering the gasket to keep the rubber moisturized. Easy to install. Buttery smooth threads and I love the wrench on/off option now. I had to hammer a screwdriver through my last oil filter to get it off from the previous owners wayyyy overtightening it.

Ive used these K&N filters and Yamaha factory filters exclusively for my FZ1. I would recommend these to everyone who does their own oil changes. Oil filters can be a real pain in the arse depending on where they are located (I have to stab my ATV filter with a screwdriver and turn it to remove it, trust me, it sucks). Save yourself the time and effort and go with one of these. The nut on the end of the fiter makes removal a breeze. Cheaper than factory filters too. 5 Stars

If your doing your own oil changes, you probably already know theres really only one critical function of the filter: keep the oil circulating in the system clean of contaminants. K&N is a reliable brand, and probably one of the bigger dogs in the business. Ive only used these filters on my motorcycle. It fits my 2004 Honda 599 perfectly, no leaks, no troubles installing, and creates a good seal against the block. You wont have any performance gains, but you will have piece of mind. They are cheaper alternatives, but this still beats OEM prices.

K & N Amazon review Have used before. I dont have my motorcycle oil analyzed like my trucks so I have no idea how well it filters. But I use K & N on my street and track bike. The nut on the end is a good idea however I have an extensive tool collection and no 17mm socket or wrench fits well enough to remove a tight filter. All slip. I use a strap wrench to remove and can use the nut for installing due to the low torque value. That is, I reach the correct torque value before the socket slips. One issues I see is due to the design of the nut to body interface a socket can not seat properly. The nut also appears part of the housing which is sheet metal and if so unlike a solid nut or bolt may deform with enough force. Ill see the next time I change oil.

K&N Oil filter with wrench off nut Easiest Oil Filter to remove in tight spaces Buy a pair of these every year before changing oil in 2007 Yamaha VX Cruiser Waverrunners. The oil filter is just under the exhaust manifold and a bit difficult to work around. The wrench off nut makes it very easy to remove the oil filter in tight spaces. Have never had a problem with the oil filter coming loose. Waverunners take a beating in rough water and High RPMs over the course of a season, and never had an issue with these oil filters.

I do believe that these filters are superior in filtration quality and internal construction. They are also reasonably priced for a performance grade product... However... These filters offer a feature that is and has proven to be an undoubted serious failure in engineering and manufacturing application. It renders itself unusable, unreliable, and potentially physically dangerous and financially costly. From what otherwise could be an excellent quality product and a great value from an established industry manufacturer. This reported reoccurring defect negates anything good or positive about the filter and seriously damages the reputation of the manufacturer imho...this was the only filter that I considered using over my bikes oem oil filter...the first one that started leaking I was 99.9% sure that I did not apply any force to the attached nut feature during my installation. I did however use the nut to spin the filter down, by hand with a socket extension and no ratchet attached. 100% sure that I figured by hand, as I always do and have done since my first oil filter change 40 plus years ago. So after reading the manufacturers website addressing this feature Iquestioned myself if perhaps might have applied a slight amount of torque but wasnt 100% sure so I bought another one and installed and never put any tool to filter, only my hand. That installation confirmed for me that it is a manufacturing failure. It was about 2 weeks later while returning from a 2 day road trip across state. I discovered while stopping to refuel, that one side of my NEW rear tire was coated with oil...it was late on a Sunday night and I just rode 150 miles of winding road, solo... I was lucky that I hadnt lost traction in a corner because of it and slid off the road out in the middle of nowhere...I cannot believe that this removal nut feature hasnt been eliminated. I can only imagine how many inexperienced diy guys are chucking up the impact on the install. You would think it would be marked with large clear warnings not to use. They can only blame it on the installer for so long before enough people learn and know better. Maybe there are claims for substantial damages that wont allow them to admit their ongoing failure... Smh...

How do I know if this is a good oil filter or not vs others?....I dont really....... My boat engines run like new (Yamaha 08 SX230) so I guess its good. I get this exclusively because of the nut on the end - makes it SUPER easy to remove in somwehat of a tight spot. Would give it 5 stars but just a bit pricey.

Its a filter. What can I say? Good fit and short of analyzing the oil, one can only assume it is doing what it is designed to do.

Metric nut on top of filter for easy removal if previous owner torqued the filter down too much like many folks like to do lol.
