> 24 hourHere is the bottom line this outdoor plug is expensive, built like an absolute tank and will always stay connected to the hub so what are you exactly paying for then? Easy... quality. What sets Lutron apart and why you are paying a premium is the build quality and Clear Connect RF, Lutrons proprietary communication technology that runs on 434mhz and why does that matter? Glad you asked the lower the frequency the further it can go through thick walls and open air meaning you can have these outside and not need to worry if they will connect. Also basically nothing uses 434mhz anymore so nothing is going to intefere with the signal, your wifi wont, your ZigBee wont and your z-wave wont. Basically the only thing that still uses 434 are old garage door opener remotes and only in a real short busy and very infrequent. In my 1930s house that is double bricked with Lath and Plaster walls Lutron devices have zero issues connecting and staying connected. All the wifi, ZigBee and zwave alternatives I tried would sometimes go offline. So if you already got a Lutron Hub and never want to deal with any issues with whatever you plug into this thing this is the product for you

> 24 hourI could not rate the Alexa use as I am an App biggot, but like the the rest of the Caséta system it works perfectly with Siri so it should work with Alexa as well. Installation was simple. Plug it into an standard US duplex outlet. Plug the load into the other connection on the device. That is all. You can then press the waterproof button to turn the device on and off. To activate the remote function, open the app on your phone. Click the dropdown to reach add the device option. Select the device and follow the instructions on the phone. When you have completed all steps as instructed. You can turn on and off your device with the app on your cell phone. In addition, when you next open your Home App on your iPhone the new device will show up and can be added to all your regular scenes or automations. For those not familiar with the Caséta system, you will need to get a starter kit so you have a bridge. Without the bridge none of the Caséta products can be configured. They will work as local device controllers only. For Apple Siri integration, you also need an iPad or Apple TV you can leave connected to the same wireless system as the bridge and the bridge must be connected to the internet for proper setup.

> 24 hourEverything all the other posters said is right, it’s well made and easy to use and reliable. Just putting this note here for anyone else who is buying too fast and skimming instead of reading (like I was) - the price does NOT mean you have every feature possible. It doesn’t dim. Had it plugged in and running my patio decor when I realized it can’t dim the lights - ugh. Already threw away box and everything. Only outdoor smart plug with dimmable features that connects to Apple HomeKit I could find is WAY cheaper, so I guess that’s my silver lining. This well-made, expensive item is going into a drawer for storage until I have another use (that doesn’t need dimming). Side note - have been transitioning to the Caseta product line and am really liking the reliability and functionality.

> 24 hourSo happy Lutron introduced this to the Caseta compatible line. My use is to control a home water pressure pump that I dont always want running but cannot easily access. Compared to my previous solution which was a remote-switched plug/dongle cord, this product allows me to control or schedule the pump at certain times and/or remotely. For example, when running the drip irrigation system for 2.5 hours I dont want or need the loud water pressure pump running. Now I can automatically schedule the Smart Plug to turn off at 2am before the irrigation system comes on and run it in silence. I have no issues with range, although I do use two extenders - one plug-in dimmer and one additional repeater, as part of my whole-home shades and lights system. The Caseta system is probably the best ever infrastructure addition to my life and their customer service is tremendous. The only bummer is adding 3 Picos, on top of the device itself, to manually control the Smart Plug from various bathrooms (for shower pressure) takes up valuable slots in the Caseta system which has a maximum of 75 devices. You dont need Picos if you want to control it from the app, but I find it easier, and people without the app can turn the Smart Plug on and off in real time, should your needs dictate. It would be great if Lutron could offer dedicated RF remotes along with the plug (outside of the Caseta network) that would be in addition to any additional Picos one chooses to add to the Caseta network through the app. Strictly speaking, this RF remote technology would likely be a step back for the sophisticated company but it would be convenient if the plug came with a few remotes that just worked out of the box.

> 24 hourThis is the FIRST outdoor Wi-Fi smart switch that has not failed. Other brands at 20% of the price are unreliable. Strongly recommend this, especially if losing connection is a serious problem. Worth every penny.

> 24 hourI use this device to control my outdoor landscape lighting. I have a lot of Lutron Caseta in the house and this fit into my smart home system very nicely. It was added quickly to my Lutron app. I use the Lutron app to control all my outdoor lighting on a schedule related to sunrise and sunset. I dont integrate it to Alexa because there is no need to control the lights from the Alexa app, but it would be easy to add just like my other Caseta devices. There are two impressive things about this device. First it is well built and would seem to last a long time in an outdoor environment. Second is the range. It is not a WiFi device, it uses a 900Mhz frequency that has better penetration abilities than a 2.4Ghz signal. At first I thought I would have to install this device on the outside of the house between the outlet and the 12V transformer. But I realized that it would fit INSIDE the door on the transformer (I use a 150W transformer by Volt and it is 100% stainless steel enclosure). This made the installation much simpler and secured the device inside the transformer which you can lock. My Lutron hub is in a closet. There are 4 internal walls, a brick exterior wall and a full stainless enclosure around the switch and it works great. That is about 40 feet between the hub and the switch. I also tried it to an outlet in the backyard, even further from the hub and maybe one more wall and it still worked. Yes this switch is relatively expensive. But all the Lutron Caseta hardware I have bought is top quality. It is reliable, and Im not sending a command through some server halfway around the world to turn my lights on/off. This syncs my landscape lighting with my porch light and garage sconces. They turn on and off at the same time and I didnt need to add another system into my smart house. I removed all my WiFi connected devices out of my house, so I was happy to see Lutron release this. I bought a 2nd unit for the backyard.
