My Asus C302 Chromebook fits nicely in this. Padding is not robust, but fine for most of my needs. Just to clarify, zipper is on the side for the computer.

And super-light-weight, with room in compartments for all Surface components & external hard drive. Lacks only a shoulder strap. Adding one with clips from old bag.
