    I just bought this a few days ago. I work in a gauge house. Immediately tested on gauge blocks, found it to be very accurate. After testing it by measuring a few hundred parts this week, it is staying right on zero when I close it. Highly recommend this if you want less hassle with calibration.

    This is my 3rd caliper from Mitutoyo and would not get any other brand. Been in the machining trades for over 45 years and always had a Mitutoyo caliper with me along for the ride.

Mitutoyo 500-197-30 AOS Absolute Digimatic Caliper is the best value in digital calipers.
It has a measuring range of 0-8" with .0005" resolution. Equipped with the
exclusive AOS sensor technology which is a patented Advanced Onsite Sensor that
offers improved measurement dependability by increasing resistance to harsh workshop conditions.
This caliper features the electromagnetic inductive (AOS) sensor
providing improved resistance to environmental conditions such as dirt, oil and water that
can cause false readings, an increased battery life of 3.5 years under normal operation
and Absolute (ABS) sensor that eliminates the necessity of setting the reference
when the caliper is powered on. It is also fully compatible with existing Mitutoyo digimatic peripherals
(SPC cables, U-Wave wireless transmitters, etc.)and are priced the same as
the latest 500 Series ABS Caliper models.
