> 24 hourBought and read this when it first came out in 2008. I remember liking it but nothing more. Thanks to Presidents Nelsons recent (2018) BofM reading challenge, upon finishing my own marathon reading, I had this uncanny urge to re-read all four of this authors Out of Jerusalem volumes. Since this was next in her list of published works, what else could I do but keep going? All I could remember about this story was that Abinadi was not some old geriatric. More like a young Chris Evans Captain America quoting Isaiah and...that was it. He mightve had a girlfriend too. Yeah, there was A LOT of story Id completely forgotten about. So, young Chris Evans Abinadi has been carrying a torch for the lovely, single and wealthy Raquel for some time now. Raquel also just happens to be the daughter of Amulon. Yes, THAT Amulon who would later betray fellow priest Alma and have an entire rebellious, wicked, group of people named after him. Abinadi and Raquel have a couple of meet/cutes before Raquel manages to escape becoming part of King Noahs harem to join Abinadis secret society in the wilderness jungle. Meanwhile, Alma is a reluctant member of King Noahs court. Yes, Alma is in this story too. He has his eye on one of the forbidden women in the court. Forbidden because she is King Noahs newest addition to his concubine. Will Abinadi find love before his inevitable death by fire? Can Alma escape this den of iniquity before it brainwashes him? Read the book and find out.

> 24 hourThis is the first book I read by H.B. Moore and has since been a favorite author. I so enjoyed this story which keeps the scriptural account accurate while giving an endearing senario of this amazing person. Highly recommend to anyone even if you arent interested in scriptural stories.

> 24 hourI loved this book! H B Moore did a great job of sticking to the original scripture story, while bringing the story to life. She helped me understand what it would be like to live in the days of Abinadi and Alma. While we dont really know Abinadis age or family situation, this gave me a fresh perspective and made learning about it fun. The information about the time period is well researched and sited. The characters are engrossing and I love them!

> 24 hourAnother great story by Heather Moore. I love reading her version of these scriptural figures. She researches the time period and culture and makes the characters come to life. I feel like I understand them more after reading her stories. I liked her new take on Adinadi where she portrays him as a younger man. It makes his sacrifice that much more. I enjoyed reading this book and would highly recommend it.

> 24 hourThis is surely on my Top 5 list (and with much competition since I am an avid reader for the last 73 years). I love Ms Moores scriptural novels, but this is, by far, my favorite. How emotionally touching it is to learn, in more detail, of what these great leaders endured... the heartache, the inspiration and, yes, the torture! It makes me appreciate my beliefs all the more and increases my faith! While Abinadi was a prophet from the Book of Mormon, one does not have to be LDS to enjoy the book. Highly recommend it to everyone!

> 24 hourI learned another side of Abinadi here and came to appreciate what he did even more. Challenging a king and country are hard

> 24 hourThis is an excellent book. I couldnt put it down. I read it when it first came out but am just getting around to writing a review. The other books that follow this are equally good or better.

> 24 hourI love this story. It is fun to imagine how one of my favorite Book of Mormon heroes may have found love and adventure. It was sometimes intense and heartbreaking but also a beautiful story about overcoming adversity.

> 24 hourLoved her insights and character developments. Very well done, made me want to read Moores other books. I found myself wanting to know more and more about these valiant men and women who served so long ago.
