I have no artistic skills but I like the idea of animating things so wanted to give it a shot. While this software isnt simple (you have to draw, color, and animate), its not terribly difficult and a reasonably smart or dedicated person can use it. It comes with libraries already built in that you can tweak to get you started, as well as a 300+ page getting started booklet in PDF format. Im not expecting to make movies, but I love that I can do at least a little something.

This is a standalone entry-level software package that lets you do 2d character animations such as for cartoons or explainer videos. It like Photoshop Elements vs Photoshop - a scaled down pro-level package for those just wanting to test the waters before investing in the ($300+) full version. This package has a pretty steep learning curve for a novice, but I’m still working through it. There are some tutorials on YouTube that will get you started.

This animation software will get you up and running with animating perhaps faster than complex professional versions. It does have a learning curve but it isnt overwhelming. The instructions are very good and engaging enough to make it more fun and less tedious. The included samples and library are great and really assist in the learning process by providing key elements and examples. Great introductory software to creating little shorts. 4 solid stars.

I puchased this Moho Debut 13.5 recently, wanting to mess around with doing some 2D animation and learn a new bit of software. After installing it, I had the impression I had used this software before - and turns out I had. This is Smith Micros Anime Studio rebranded as MOHO. I already had both Anime Studio Pro 9 & Anime Studio Debut and had used both in the past. So there shouldnt be much of a new learning curve for me with this Moho Debut. If you are new to this sort of thing (2D animation software), this software might seem a bit challenging at first. Take your time, read the tutorial manual and the user manual. There are also some good videos on YT that can cover the basics of getting started. One thing about this Debut version of the software, its basically the PLE (personal learning edition) for the full version of the software, Moho Pro 13.5. You can do most of the basic things with Debut, but you need the full version to do more advance work. All-in-all, Im happy with my purchase and look forward to seeing what new features there might be in this 13.5 release of the software.

You can think of the debut edition of Moho version 13.5 as having a reduced feature set for almost all the types of options that Moho offers. For example, you can draw, but there are drawing features in the professional version of Moho that are not available in the Debut version. Likewise, you use the bones feature in Debut but there are advanced features of the bones mode that are only available to users of the professional version. I my opinion you get a lot of features in the Debut version, moreover, there is an upgrade path for the Debut to professional edition of Moho; if you are an animation beginner this might be the path for you. While there are a lot of tutorials on Moho available on YouTube, I recommend giving the tutorial that comes with Moho a try first, this tutorial is only in pdf but is quite easy to follow. Finally, in comparison to its competitors, who mostly offer subscription based services and are quite expensive, Moho is a great deal. Even the professional version is reasonably priced for what it does.

My 10 yr old granddaughter LOVES to draw and is very creative. Her forte is Anime type of figures. So I figure this looks like a great starting point for her to play with animation. I did a basic look through and it seems like this will help her to start to understand the process without getting overwhelmed while she gains confidence. Ive looked at the Pro as well and Id say if you have zero experience with animation, this would be the best place to start. You can export anything from here to the Pro version so you wont lose that material either. Once she has had the opportunity to work with this Ill return to relay her thoughts and experiences.

If you dont have access to a dvd rom, you can download from their site and just input the serial number from the dvd. I have zero knowledge about animations, but in navigating inside the software, it feels very familiar to photoshop. On the left side of the software is a BEGINNERS MODE TOOL column. When you highlight a tool, there is an info box explaining what the tool does, as well as a video link you can click on for further demonstration. These video links take you to YT btw. Get used to the word BONE. In animation, you need to give your character bones in order for them to move. Each bone, whether it be arm, leg, hand, etc. has movements that you can define. I still know nothing, but I feel the software isnt all that intimidating if you spend a little time with it, as well as watching YT tutorials. And if you have photoshop or adobe illustrator experience, I think youll feel right at home. 5-Stars.

This is a fun system that allows you to learn the basics of animation. It does take some time to learn the program, but once you learn a technique, its easy to move to another. The software has a beginner mode that really does make it easy to learn. Once youve mastered that, you can delve into more in-depth animation. I was intrigued with the difference between this and the pro versions. Glad I opted for this one since I am such a novice. make sure you read through the tutorial as it offers so much information. The system is wonderful, allows you to learn by example, and gives back once you do.

This is an amazing bit of software for this price. If you recognize 2d animation, this gets you there with minimal learning. Im family with general movie editing software as well as music software, so the concept of layering is not new to me. However, I have no animation experience - in no time, I found myself setting up mini vignettes and scenes (mostly using pre-made character samples). This gives me a good feel for the capabilities of this software. Theres amazing capabilities for an introductory software package and an array of educational videos available on YouTube for exploring the possibilities. Perfect for learning animation on a budget, but also capable of professional grade 2d animation. Recommended.
