You can tell a lot about a product by examining the fit, finish, and overall build quality; the quality of these OWC external drive enclosure is first rate. They work well too, and with the front grill and metal case the drive doesnt get hot.

I have several of these hard drives. One of my old are fire why’re 402 GB drives started having intermittent problems so I replaced it with this. That one was at least 12 years old. These last much longer than the brown plastic ones from another company. I recommend these drives. Nevertheless be sure to pack up your important data

My drive has been inside my Mac Pro for three years without a single issue. I wanted to make it an external drive. Began a large transfer of 1.5 TB. The transfer took nearly a day over USB 3 and failed near the end. My data was gone and MacOS was no longer able to read the disk. I know that MacOS has historically been a destroyer of hard drives. From 10.3 Panther onward, MacOS has destroyed over 14 hard drives of mine. So I cant tell if this is a Unix thing or an OWC thing. Met my expectations

the power is 12V 3A made by the famous Taiwan brand APD, powerful enough to handle the surge when you turn on the HDD; the finish is very well, the chipset is JMicron JMS 567; Get it if you have a Seagate Exos 18T: the HDD can be smoothly shoehorned into the enclosure! OWC is trustworthy!

Im very happy with this drive. Its as fast and as big as I need and a solidly built product.

I use this drive enclosure with a drive that is connected to a NAS via USB. I had an enclosure which I had been using for some time, but the fan in the old enclosure stated to fail, so I replaced the enclosure. I was a bit concerned about the drive getting hot, but the enclosure seems to do a great job of dissipating heat and with no fan it is silent. This enclosure is not the least or most expensive one available, but I would rate it a solid value. I would have to connect the drive directly to a computer to test the access speed and I dont use it that way so I have not, but my observations with accessing the drive via the NAS is that it is significantly better than the previous enclosure, but that is not a very objective standard. If you want an enclosure for a 3.5 inch HDD, this one would be a very good choice.

Bought as a bare enclosure. Its well made and I like the look of it in person, and it sits well on the desk and feels stable and planted. Performance seems fine, and it runs quietly with a WD40EFZX in it. It comes with a universal power supply wall wart, but with a USA adapter, not an AU one. I contacted OWC - they are always very responsive - and they offered to sell me a brick style adapter, as they dont carry the international adapter plates for this PSU. Disappointing considering I bought it through amazon.au, not the US site. The screws supplied to hold the drive into the enclosure were not suitable: they have a large cylindrical head and when the drive was mounted with these the drive sled didnt fit in the housing without touching the sides, which defeats the isolation mount. I replaced them with normal drive screws and clearance was acceptable. A good enclosure, and Id buy it again, but some packaging mistakes prevent this from getting all the stars.

Nice external drive, nicely finished case, quiet, good stand, comes formatted in Windows file format so must be reformatted to use with a Mac, so far it’s been trouble free. I’m a photographer so it’s primarily used to store photos and it’s acceptably fast in loading new stuff. I’m really very satisfied!
