> 3 dayA number of years ago I trimmed the bars on my Giant Anthem to about 710mm. For my style of XC this seemed to work for racing and general riding. However, as we all know, bar widths have gone up, not down and most bars come 780-800mm long/wide. The consensus for XC these days seems to be around 780, though there are many examples of notable riders going narrower or wider. I now ride a mix of trail, XC and DH with a fair amount of technical up and down riding and decided it was time to get in step with the current trends, so I cut these down to 780mm. My Anthem aluminum bars were fine otherwise, though a bit stiff. I prefer the peace of mind of aluminum over carbon in bars and stems, though I have ridden both and carbon can give a pretty nice ride. These bars are a tad lighter than the OEM Anthem bars and feel a tad more compliant without being springy or loosing trail-feel. After about 6 2+ hour rides so far, hand/arm fatigue seems less, but its hard to really judge. Im sure a [significantly more expensive] carbon bar would perform better, but I am very happy with these bars. I highly recommend these bars if you are looking for a value priced but performance oriented set in aluminum
