This is a well made and beautiful kitchen composter. In our area, we are able to put all kitchen waste, including meat and fish bones and scraps, in our yard waste container, so all of this goes in our counter top composter. We empty it nearly every day, but this kind of waste is obviously going to cause odors to develop if left more than a day. This container keeps all those odors contained and we never notice them in the kitchen. We chose the copper color and it is beautiful against the granite counter tops. My husband has been using a (different brand) plain composter for his worm farm (they get the coffee grounds and fresh fruit/veggie scraps) and he is envious of the copper coloring! I definitely would recommend this brand of container!

This bin is the perfect size, doesn’t smell, and has some heft to it; doesn’t feel cheap at all. When I say it’s the perfect size, I mean it! You shouldn’t let compost sit for more than a week without turning, and this bin just so happens to last my family of 4 about a week before getting full. If you see white mold growing, that’s totally okay. If you see green mold growing (like in my picture) then it means that part of the pile was too wet. Mix up the pile (don’t get the lid or filter wet) and add some shredded paper/cardboard/leaves. Our coffee grounds seem to dry pretty quickly after adding them to the kitchen bin. But any wet scraps like tomato juices, squeezed lemons and limes, or berries that were sacrificed to a toddler, should be immediately layered with paper, especially if you don’t plan on adding it to your big pile soon. Dry paper or dead plant matter, like leaves and brown* grass clippings, are what composters call your “browns.” Try to keep your brown:green ratio at 2:1 or 3:1, or even 4:1. While this little copper bin is in my kitchen, I find my brown:green ratio being more like 1:3, but because I’m dumping it out once a week to my larger pile where I can add browns—it’s not the end of the world. If you want to speed up your compost process, cut your scraps into smaller pieces before adding them to your bin. This picture was my first batch and we were lazy with our apple cores and fruit peels. We should have cut those scraps up a bit before tossing them—but whatever. Compost is just plant matter decomposing, so don’t over think it!

It exceeded my expectations as far as sturdiness goes, and pleasant to look at better than my old compost bin which was an old coffee can boo. So far so good, but the real test will be the smell , I was impressed that it does come with 2 filters in place then several replacement filters as well. If all goes well I will be ordering the Copper toned bin for fall. Big thumbs up from me!

I used to use the RSVP International Bamboo Kitchen Compost and Accessories Collection, Compost Pail, 3.25 Quart (https://www.amazon.com/RSVP-International-Kitchen-Accessories-Collection/dp/B0B1ZH8V76/), purchased locally, but then I misplaced the plastic liner so I had to get a new compost bin. I opted for this metal pail because it seemed sturdier and easier to keep clean, and didnt have a separate liner. Its also attractive without calling attention to itself. As someone who has composted kitchen scraps for years, I know the basic drill: dont leave things in the bin for too long, empty it regularly (at least twice a week), etc. The BioBag Food Waste Certified Compostable 3 Gallon bags fit this bin and are easily tightened around the rim with either a twist-tie or one of those small plastic closures you use to close bags of sliced bread. After emptying the bin in the city-provided compost recycling container outside, I do notice that the inside of the bin is wet (its a natural process) but because its metal its easily cleaned and dried before I insert another BioBag. Its fairly easy to replace the charcoal filter in the lid, especially compared to the bamboo bin I used to use, which was much harder to extract the filter from and insert a new filter into. By the way, check with your citys local garbage/compost collector as to whats allowed in the compost bin. Mine accepts meat, bones, fish, etc., while Ive seen other websites say those are no-nos. Obviously, depending on what you actually toss in the bin will determine how soon you empty it so you dont smell up your kitchen. The charcoal filter can do only so much, after all.

Ive owned this compost bin (ordered the copper looking one) for a while now. Its so cute, easy to clean, do a good job at blocking odors, but there is on draw back. It does not prevent fruit flies to be all over the place, because the lid does not fit tight. They do lay eggs in the filter, so more of them invade the kitchen. And it is a job to get the eggs out of the filter. I did remedy to the problem by putting two coats of electrical tape around the edge of the lid. That way, if you make sure no pesky flies get in when you are not looking, you are free of them. Maybe the manufacturer, Kitchen Countertop, could find a solution to this problem.

I recently got it so cant comment about durability over the long haul. It seems well made and is attractive. Good product. I am happy with it. Also seems the company is dedicated to good customer service. They sent me an email offering to help if I had any issues with it.

After 6 months of use I found a small defect in my bin. I couldn’t believe how fast they gave me a refund. I didn’t get a replacement because I need one that goes in the dishwasher. I have two, so one is always clean.

While Ive only had this countertop compost bin for a short time, I can say that Im very pleased. I keep it under the kitchen sink. No odor detected, its easy to clean and seems quite sturdy. It came with extra filters which is a nice touch. The price seemed reasonable compared to what I paid for my old one (different manufacturer) - so far, so good.
