The only thing I do not like is there should be a thicker material on the bottom. The ones I had in the past had a solid green base. The bottom in this one is the same mesh and mine ended up getting a tear with in the first week. I have to make sure I put a pot on top of the tear so nothing can get inside. It is smaller than my last one, but I do like the size.

I am currently raising a large brood of Polyphemus caterpillars, so added two more of these cages to the three that I already had. One is perfect but the second reeks to high heaven of some sort of floral scent. It’s been expanded for a week now.. I even washed it in the shower, but it still reeks so much that I hate to walk by it. I’m not sure whether it was simply stored next to something smelly and the plastic picked up the scent, but it’s really awful. If I wasn’t desperate for the cage I’d send it back.. But overall these cages are great for raising moths or butterflies. They open easily and are easy to move around. I have hung them from hooks outside to let the caterpillars get fresh air, and they are perfect for housing females to attract males. And when not in use they fold flat. I really like them except for this last stinky one. ** update - I have now purchased 6 of these and only the one was fragrant… it’s been a few weeks open now and the scent has finally mostly dissipated.

Steel frame not strong. Mine is out of shape. I should have sent back before I started to use. Very nice size to put a potted plant. I like the large open which makes it easy to remove pot and clean container. The mesh is nice quality and small to keep small caterpillars in however I did not place caterpillars in mesh container until about 4 days old. Nice viewing window.. Zipper has been dragging as time goes on.

This rearing cage is large enough to fit a full potted milkweed and many caterpillars. Cleaning is very easy and I like the plastic window for viewing. There is a elastic on the corner if securing outside on a windy day and I did learn this the hard way. I would purchase again and recommend for anyone trying caterpillar rearing and butterfly release.

Last summer I found a carolina mantis in my yard, I brought her inside and she laid an ootheca in her cage so i kept it in a fridge over winter and it hatched a couple days ago about 35-40 nymphs. This cage was perfect for the process. They climb up the sides to the top and chill there. they are already so fast too and run around and push eachother off its like a mini warzone right upon being born. So I have already separated them into their little prepped deli cups. The holes are small enough so I could put 1/8 in fruit flies in there for feeding perfectly fine before separating them out. And The zipper can upzip from the bottom (which was helpful for retrieving them since they sit at the top) or top. All is good.

I am raising butterflies. Having this is a safe way to keep an eye on the caterpillars and safely release the butterfly.

Got these for both sets of grandkids, aged 5 to 9, and they all loved watching the caterpillars grow each day and watching them change and become butterflies that they cou P d set free. A great learning experience.

I raise Luna moths and this enclosure is perfect. I was initially kind of annoyed at the weird plastic side, but once my moths mated and the eggs hatched, it was much easier to get the caterpillars off of the plastic than the mesh, so that ended up being a huge plus. Cant wait to order more!

This year I had a butterfly that could not fly. It was heartbreaking - he was perfect in every way but just could not fly. I bought a bunch of flowers in pony packs (flowers that are picked stop producing nectar - but wash them very well and sit them in the sun because almost every nursery sprays an insecticide or rodenticide on all plants!) in there. - I got about six pony packs in there, with room for a bit of cantaloupe with a small reservoir for gatorade. I also put a small dish with muddy water as butterflies get their water this way (it’s called puddling). During the day I sat him on a plant in the garden, and during the evening he came inside. He lasted 27 days and I was glad to get to know him. But I wouldnt keep a butterfly confined for very long. These are well-made and when I was done I let it soak in bleach water (I cup bleach to 10 cups of water) for 20 minutes. and then rinsed it. You want to wash it after each use as there is a parasite (OE) that can be transferred. There are probably a lot of things. The reason to not keep butterflies that are not disabled in an enclosure is that they want to fly and will keep trying to get out, which causes their wings to break.
