I bought this so I would have something that would be sturdy enough but also provide some cushion if ever I had to deal with a broke bone. It comes rolled up and shows different ways it can be utilized on limbs with small pictures on the product. Hopefully I never have to use it but Im happy I have it.

I have a first aid certification, and a first responder level healthcare provider certification. Im also a volunteer firefighter. My grandfather fell one Sunday morning, and before picking him up, I noticed a deformity in his wrist. It looked like a pretty good fracture, and it turned out that it was. I keep a sam splint in my first aid kit, and I made a wrist splint out of it and wrapped it in cohesive tape. It worked flawlessly. Im sure any EMT who has used a sam splint would tell you that it is a great thing to keep in a first aid kit. Immobilizing fractures is extremely important. the sooner the better. Definitely pick one up. theyre re-usable too.

What can be said about the SAM splint? Its an excellent item to have in your FAK if youre in an environment where splinting an injury may be likely. Its a little bulky to carry and you can always splint with sticks, trekking poles, etc that you already have but its hard to beat the utility of this little aid.

If you want to help someone when they break their arm, or at least feel like you would be able too without passing out from the site of exposed bone and blood, then you could use one of these. The splint comes with clear instructions on use. Its easy to roll out and stabilize a limb. And its small enough that you can you carry around with you, and pray to God that no one gets hurt on your watch. Its also durable. I use several as teaching aides in first aid classes, and after being unrolled and shaped countless times they still work. So forget about trying to splint someones broken leg or arm with a branch or a magazine like a Bear Grylls MacGyver EMT wanna be, and just carry this.

I’ve used this in the past and it is a must have. I know that all medical equipment has to cost several times what it is really worth. But I still gotta have this for the jump bag I carry in my Jeep.
