Hooked right up to the old iMac and let me get everything in the computer I wanted to transport to my new computer at my convenience. The unit seems sturdy.

Perfect for my needs for a 4TB SSD. Just ordered another one. Wish Samsung would produce an 8TB version.

Only had this a few days. I ran some Crystal Disk Mark speed tests. Update. I feel like I have to clarify my speed tests. Ignore the text at the bottom of each speed test image capture as i mistakenly confused the connections I was testing. The 32 MB/s results came from a USB 2.0 connection. The 44 MB/s tests were done with a 3.0 USB connection. The 465 MB/s came through my USB 3.1 connection and the 980 MB/s speeds were accomplished with USB C 3.2 Gen 2 connection. Thats very close to the drives claimed speeds of 1000/1050 MB/s. The last test (for a comparison) was done on my 500 GB NVME M.2 drive on the motherboard. Its a not particularly high end Crucial Patriot P1 but that drive is still considerably faster than this portable is (about 50% quicker on reads). Still Im happy with the performance of this T7 portable drive. All tests were done on the same Windows 10, Ryzen based PC. An MSI Tomahawk board. Note how similar the read and write results are to one another. This is not the case with my motherboards Patriot NVME M.2 drive, writes are about 33% slower than reads. I did not try to boot any OS from the T7. It looks and feels tough. Its really tiny, about the size of a credit card but thicker.. The USB C connector is very tight and will not fall out. They give you two very short (maybe 15 inch) cables. One has a type C to A connection end on it and the other is a type C to C cable. Has a nice soft blue activity light on the front of the drive. No external power adapter is needed. No carrying case is supplied. Probably should have gotten the 2 TB version but that was pretty pricey.

This 4TB portable storage device is an outstanding option for anyone in need of a reliable, fast, and durable solution. Many YouTube reviews showcase its impressive speed capabilities, making it a top choice for on-the-go storage/or quick local backup storage (do some research). When purchasing, ensure you have the appropriate connection port, IE: as a minimum USB of 3.2 Gen 2 for optimal performance. Additionally, if you require a longer cable, be sure to use the correct one to maintain optimal speed and functionality. Remember up-to 1050MB/s does not mean that is what you will see. On my Laptop, I average around 900MB/s and I bought my laptop pre-pandemic, I am satisfied with the speed of the drive.

In debating between this T7 Shield, the T7 Portable Ive been eying, and another SanDisk Extreme drive, I opted to go with the one on sale, since performance should be similar enough: an NVMe drive with USB 10 Gbit/s connectivity. At first I was a little unimpressed with the performance of the drive. But then I realized, I was connecting this to a Mac with the drives factory EXFAT formatting. In my experience Macs dont perform as well as Microsofts own EXFAT drivers built into Windows, and the difference can be a couple hundred megs on the sustained writes. Reformatting it as APFS required converting the disk from legacy MBR to GPT (easily done, if you Google how to in Disk Utility, or trivial if you just reach for a Linux box). After giving the drive a Mac native file system, performance was now on par with what I expected. Since my goal was to use this as a Time Machine drive, I didnt bother testing this under my Windows machine but expect performance would have been solid with Microsofts native EXFAT support. In terms of ruggedness, it looks like a fairly standard NVMe/USB assembly was wrapped up in hard plastic to be suitably sealed from the elements. If there was a plug for the USB port, I wouldnt be surprised if I could drop this thing in a pool and dive in after it. The lack of such protection for the port is probably why the drive is rated IP65, for dust tight, spritz it with water proof, not chuck it in the pool proof (IP67?). Where the hard plastized/rubber casing shouldnt chip and nick like a typical enclosure would from being bounced around, I wouldnt suggest pitching it out the back of a moving truck or out of a helicopter in flight. The plastic is hard enough that being carried around in a bag or used in a less than gentle workplace shouldnt be a problem. I bet it would be great for getting out in the world and doing photography in fairly remote places. For my purposes, the drive is expected to see see harsh treatment in the form of being tossed in a bag with other tech and deposited on a desk. So Im less in need of the durable enclosure than I am appreciative of the NVMe performance. But its nice to have a drive I know can take the rigors of travel. Much like my SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD and my old Transcend hard drive. Compared to the T7 portable that has a more normal enclosure, Id say get which ever one is cheapest or that looks good to your tastes. But if you actually do need dust, water, and drop resistance, go with the T7 Shield ;).

So far So Good! Love the portability of this device. Held ALL my important files, photos & important docs from my old expiring computer. Was fearful of loosing my years of recipe collecting & my most valuable photos...I made an excellent choice in this purchase. Easy to use (transferring files was a breeze).
