Ive had this hard drive for 2 years now and it hasnt missed a beat. I use it as a storage expansion for my PS4. With 4TB, I still havent run out of storage. I never experience any freezing, slowness, or hitches playing games off of it. I guess the only complaint I would have with this drive is the size. It is a little big, but not big enough to be a problem. I very much appreciate the indicator light to show me that its powered up. Its so silent that youd never know it was on. Lol I was so impressed with this drive and its longevity, that I purchased another drive from Seagate for my Xbox! Id say absolutely go for it if youre looking for reliability and performance for gaming!

I love it!!!! Now I finally have enough storage for my increasing PlayStation 4 library.... for those of you that said it didnt work with your PS4 try these steps it should work Go to the Settings menu from your PS4 home screen. Scroll down to the Devices menu. Choose USB Storage Devices. Select your external HDD, then choose “Format as extended storage”. I find that the drive is fast enough to play games directly off of it with no lag issues. Plus it looks great sitting next to the PS4... There isnt any bad things that I can truly say about it. As soon as I hooked it up to my PS4 I installed Infamous: Second Son which is about 30 GBs and it didnt even dent it it barely showed up I recommend this to any new PS4 owners... because games are getting larger and larger by the day. But as I said before I love this hard drive !!!!! You can never go wrong with Seagate hard drives. I have been using them for over 20 years. I had a 500 GB in my PS3 from them and it never messed up. I Highly recommended this brand of hard drive and this particular model.

First off, the price for 5TB is pretty darn good. SO lets get to it: Pros: - USB3.0 is super fast compared to 2.0 - compatible with 2.0 and such. I already imaged my drive off an older laptop I was retiring and transferred it into a new workstation and my personal laptop no problems! - Unit is a little more compact than I thought. From the pics I thought Id be about the size or bigger than my old MyBook but it is actually 1/4 less diameter all around. - Cosmetics of the casing is cool - comtemporary. - Blue LED light on the back top - sturdy 3.0 cable - surprisingly quiet operation! - recognized from my old Windows XP - Vista - newest 10 Cons: - rubber feet only on vertical/bottom. I dont think theres an issue with placing it on its side but theres no rubber feet so either it may scuff the case if shifted or you have to put something like small silicone or rubber feet yourself - power cord is your standard thin wire. I hate that..I wish it has a tad more covering just as a peace of mind. If you have a cat - shield that up. A couple chews will go right through. - I personally like manual on/off switches even though this knows to standby when there is no signal. After the drive images and such, I have now decided to purpose it as an expansion drive for my xbox One. I have loaded graphics 4 heavy games such as Battlefront, Gears of War, Halo, COD, Netflix and Youtube and it read only slightly over 3% used. This is an awesome cost effective option for expanded storage for gaming!! NOTE: Save the factory software on a USB or other drive because in order for this to be treated as expanded storage and not a media (music, pics, vids) storage you will have to format it through your gaming system. I leave the stars at 4 since its still new. Ill update after some months and year of use.

This is an excellent storage device. I have had no problems with it. It is reasonably fast, quiet, runs cool and has been very dependable with not an issue during the months I have had it. I have used 4 terabytes so far on this drive without an issue. It has been very dependable and a very good drive. My understanding (through a Youtube review) is that this is the same drive sold for internal use in computers. It has been fitted in a case and plugs into an adaptor within the case for use with a USB in my computer. Initially being an internal computer drive it can be removed from the case and used as an internal drive should you wish to do so. Mounting screws are included on the drive. To keep it cool I have removed the top part of the case to allow better circulation (which voids what warrantee it has I am sure). My understanding is with drives such as this is that they become very hot inside their cases and so I removed the top part of the case to keep it cool. After hours of use it is barely warm to the touch, just a very small amount of heat...just enough to be slightly warm to the touch. This is an excellent drive and I highly recommend it.

First off, i was wary of the number of review stars on this drive since A) its a seagate which seems to get a bad rap as of late, and B) most of the 5-star reviews are vine voice reviews of free products. Over the last year or so ive come to the conclusion that these elite reviewers would rather keep their free stuff coming than provide honest reviews... but who am I to judge... id probably do the same. Rant aside, this drive is fast as hell. I was surprised how quickly it comes out of sleep mode (~ 2 seconds vs the 10-15 it takes my old(er) WD 3.0TB drive). I ran a long SMART check that came back clean and ive copied about a TB of stuff over to it. Zero complaints so far... but as others have said, well see how it fares in the long-term. If I needed another 5TB right now, I wouldnt hesitate on buying another one of these. Amazon packing was a little sketchy... the air bags stopped the HD from moving horizontally in the box, but not vertically. Other than that, im happy with this purchase. (Update 06/29/2016) Drive is used daily and still comes back clean with long SMART tests. Still very satisfied with this drive. (Update 02/16/2018) Now being used as a nvr drive for 10, 4MP ip cameras -- pretty much constant writes for over a year and still going strong. Id comfortably say this drive has exceeded my expectations.

Let me start this review by saying, if I were operating this device with Windows: Id give it 5 stars. However, Im running Mac OS and I had the sweatiest time getting this thing to work—I actually didnt get it to work at all—I thought that I had bricked it the first night while trying to format it. I actually ended up having to sit down with my friend in IT at work to have him help me. He had to run some command line wizardry just to get the mac to talk to it politely; more-interesting things to format it. After that: its working perfectly. However this is literally the first External Hard Drive Ive seen in ten years to have ANY issues with X-Platform operation. And thats really unfortunate because I love this HD otherwise! With that aside, Ill extol its virtues: Lets start with: its eight damn terabytes! I never thought Id be able to own a hard drive with this much capacity for this price... ever! At just $150 its a steal. Its also gorgeous! I have no problems with this thing standing on my desk. The only thing remaining to be seen is how long it lives. How will it hold up over years of being a system back up? Only time will tell.

5TB is the current sweet spot for external USB 3.0 HDDs. I used the free Amazon program, Camel, Camel, Camel to monitor the price changes over several weeks and set it to email me when the price dropped to $109.99. I ordered the Seagate drive on a Tuesday for $109.99 and it arrived in good condition at my door three days later on Friday afternoon. It was a factory sealed retail box in a cardboard shipping box with adequate inflated air-bag padding to limit movement during shipping. Even though its supposed to be hot plug n play, I like to turn my Windows 7 Pro computer completely off before I plug the HDD power cable into the AC outlet and then the USB 3.0 cable from the HDD into the motherboard PCI-E to USB 3.0 4 port expansion card connection. After the system boots up, Windows 7 Pro should notice the new device and load the driver for it. Of course it renames a lot of the other drives in the process, so you will have to re-label accordingly. You have to use Windows 7 Pro Disk Management to format and partition the drive if desired. I usually make one big primary partition because I just use the HDD for extra storage. Thats pretty much all there is to it.

I run a small business studio where I keep my clients footage from years passed. This has been a reliable storage unit that doesnt rely on power from my computer.

Back up for my computer keeps all of my photos and documents stored for me. I plan on buying another one to store in my bank box to protect my photos in case of fire. This has been more economical than paying cloud storage fees.

This review is for the 8TB hard drive. Included with the external hard drive are the instructions, a power cord, approximately 65 inches in length and a 3.0 USB cable, approximately 45 inches in length. This is one of the few times that I don’t have to complain about short cables provided with external drives as these are plenty long enough. I got this drive to use as extended storage for my PS4. I have previously been using the Seagate Expansion 1TB external drive for extended storage but after a recent game buying splurge, I have run out of space with that drive. I have two of those drives and both are approximately three years old ago and are still going strong (one as the PS4 drive and one as a security cam drive) with no issues. Both of those drives were great for portability as well because of their small size. This 8 TB isn’t quite as portable as the smaller Seagate drives at approximately 7 inches by 5 inches by 2-inch thickness and this drive requires a power supply unlike the smaller drives but considering the space that this has and that it is primarily being used on my PS4, it is less of an issue. Like all extended storage drives for the PS4, it has to be formatted by the PS4 but that is quick and painless to do. The transfer of files from my main PS4 and the 1 TB drive to this drive took a bit of time but that is mainly because there is no easy way to move the game files from expansion drive to another expansion drive in the PS4. The file transfer was fairly speedy otherwise. I have use a variety of brand name drives, including WD, Toshiba and these Seagates. I have not had any issues with either the Seagate drives or the WD as they both make very reliable drives and I expect the same from this drive. With this drive priced at about 18 dollars per TB, it is a reasonable cost for this size drive. Although I am not using it for that purpose, with this drive being USB 3.0, I expect this is just as speedy as most USB 3.0 drives on a Windows based computer. This has a power/hard drive light in the back-left side of the case. Although I am not personally a fan of the light in the back, it does make it less distracting and since I am using this as a drive for the PS4, being able to see the light isn’t a huge issue. Oddly, these drives only have 1-year warranty, unlike the 1TB Seagate expansions that I bought that had 3-year warranties. Maybe that is a trend with manufacturers for lesser warranties, but I hope that doesn’t indicates its drive reliability. I will update my review if I have any issues with durability. Overall, I like the drive for my PS4 expansion drive and it is so far working as it should with no slow down or stuttering when playing a variety of games. 4 stars
