> 24 hourSiddhartha takes the reader on a journey with a man as he starts his physical and spiritual growth. The reader clearly sees the mans wants, desires, ego, and conceptions/misconceptions. There are so many nuggets of perception that I will reread passages many times for the insights they give me. Love this book for its message which is as timely now as when it was written in 1921.

> 24 hourHesses books have always found me in very specific moments, Steppen wolf first marked me as it showed that theres a place for all and everyone of us. Now Siddhartha, has shown me that I/we have been looking too far, learning from others, and lost track. Put it down after finished, but still in/with it in my head. One of my professors in college said a good book is like and axe has struck your head. Well Siddhartha is a double strike, one to the head and one to the soul.

> 24 hourI love historical novels, and this book is filled with details of life in India. It gives the reader an insight into a very rich culture. I must also say that I found myself pulling for the hero to find redemption with his life and the poor choices made. The book is long which is a big plus for me as I hate getting a book and becoming interested in it only to end it after 300 pages. I like the way the author takes you with him on his trip which is a real adventure not just an overnight stay

> 24 hourDespite having Buddha on the cover, this book is neither a biography of Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, nor is it an endorsement of Buddhism. The fictional protagonist, who is confusingly also named Siddhartha, has a vaguely similar spiritual journey to the historical Siddhartha Gautama, and even meets Buddha himself, only to ultimately reject his teachings and continue down his own path. The main philosophy or ideology being endorsed here is instead self-determinism: if enlightenment can be said to exist, each individual must find his or her own path to it. Following the teachings of someone else will leave you grasping, and trying to instruct someone else--even your own children--will be useless; they have to experience life completely on their own. I did not like the protagonist, I did not like the story, and I did not like its message. Siddhartha seems like a stand-in for Hermann Hesse himself, trying to make sense of his own beliefs. The book reeks of self-importance and the conclusion is not earned. The entire book is rather boring as well.

> 24 hourThe writer was inspired by the life story of the Gautama Buddha so much that he thought he could write a more interesting story than the historical truth if he wasnt shackled to writing about a revolutionary philosopher and religeous leader. So he started writing about the Buddha and then starting writing about some made up guy instead. Problem was, the BUddha was interesting becuase he had some amazing spiritual ideas to express. Herman Hesses ideas (expressed through the voice of Fictional Religeon Guy) , not quite so revolutionary and brilliant. As such the fictional character he chose to make the book about, not so interesting.
