    Feels sturdy (hard plastic) and extends very long. It holds it shape with the claimed extension length.

    This is the old standard tape measure with a case that allows you to simply add 3 for inside measurements - unlike the majority of tapes today that have oddball cases where you have to add 2 + 9/16 or 3 + 5/8 or some other off the wall measure. Plus because the back of the case is square (not round or some other fancy shape) you can more easily have a stable inside measure.

    I have had a model 33-425 Powerlock 25-Foot by 1-Inch Measuring Tape - Original from Stanley for years and own several other tapemeasurers for the garage shop. I also owned one with the tip broken off that I was going to order a replacement tape, but I got on Amazon, saw that a new one was only $8.99 and with free delivery with my Prime membership, I just ordered a new one. I really cant have just one of anything in my way of doing things. Set something down where it doesnt belong, then I cant find it until I somehow come upon it way later. A messy guy thing I suppose. Been that way forever as I recall. This is the original type of Stanley tape measurer. Not Fancy or perfect sized for everyone, not Fat-Max or pink. Its just a tape to measure something with. Just inches, in 1/16ths, 1/8ths, 1/4s, etc. No mms, cms or meters here. Just true boneheaded Americanism! I love it. P.S. Stanley packages this tape on a clamshell for hanging on the shelf. The belt holder is packaged in plastic so it is sealed in place and unbelievably difficult to un snag from the plastic it is entombed in. I was afraid Id break it off trying to get it separated from the clamshell. Wow!

    This is a reasonable tape for your needs. It has a thumb-lock to hold the tape extended. The price is pretty good (pretty much the same as the very-discounted holiday prices in the local hardware store).

The Stanley Powerlock 25-Foot by 1-Inch Measuring Tape is a classic, and for good reason. Two unique features make this tape a standout. First, the blade is coated with mylar to help it stand up to abrasion associated with repeated use. Second, the patented Tru-Zero hook doubles as a pivot for drawing circles and arcs, and it automatically adjusts to handle inside or outside measurements. What this means is that the hook on the end has a small amount of play that is equivalent to the thickness of the hook blade. This is so that when you measure with the hook inside a stop (like a window jam), the front end of the hook is the zero point. When you hook it over the edge of a board, the zero point becomes the back of the hook.

The Stanley Story
The Stanley Works, originally a bolt and door hardware manufacturing company located in New Britain, Connecticut; was founded in 1843 by Frederick T. Stanley.
