It serves its purpose but the slits are a little too big. The yarn keeps falling back inside and the slits dont hold the yarn in place.

Yes, if it is packed full it stands up straight. It really is awkward, unattractive with little use for purpose intended. No, the yarn does not pull smoothly out of the top holes made for that purpose. Does seem sturdy.
