The Middle Sister: A Novel

This was a OK book, it was not what expected, but it did the job.

This book, The Middle Sister, by debut novelist Bonnie Glover, is a thoughtful, warm, beautifully written book that leaves the reader thinking about the characters long after the cover is closed. Glovers characterizations are right on the mark, and the pathos of the story is leavened by its humor. It is, quite simply, a wonderful read, and I cant wait for Bonnie Glovers next novel!

This is a very good book, the middle sister is a very strong person who can hold things together for her family.

Good story. I guess I was looking for pammy to do more with her life in the end than becoming a mistress.

Theresa, Pammie and Nona are sisters whose bond is strengthened through the stresses and struggles of life.This book brought me smiles, laughs and plenty of tears as the sisters fight to survive and thrive when their father leaves them, and their mother suffers from mental illness, drifting in and out (mostly out) of reality. Being a child of the 70s, I had flashbacks of life in the city; the noises, music, sights, and sounds. I never lived in the projects, but I remember driving past them in my hometown of Detroit. The Jeffries and Brewster Projects; towering reddish brown brick buildings clustered together in groups of 4 or 5. Those same projects gave birth to Diana Ross, Lily Tomlin, and Loni Love. Do I dare imagine Theresa, Pammie or Nona achieving such success? This book leaves me wondering just where they end up.

This was an excellent read. A book of young black women having to survive and care for their mother. What I did not like was the fact that their father never looked for them or tried to be a part of their lives.

No family is perfect, and every human being has flaws. The grace in life is in loving our imperfect friends and family members, and in finding our joy regardless of hardships. Bonnie Glover drives this point home in her debut novel, The Middle Sister, a sensitive and well-written story of a young girl growing up in urban America. Pamelas nearly idyllic life is rattled when her father leaves the family, and her mother begins a steady slide into mental illness. Pamela and her two sisters close ranks and take matters into their own hands, caring for their ailing mom and raising themselves. This is a great novel for young female readers, as Pamela struggles with her emotions over the changes taking place in her life.

That was deep, in my opinion. I didnt know what to expect with this book, but it was so good, so real, so thought provoking. I cant come up with anything else. Excellent read.

This is the type of novel that i hate to finish. After the first couple of chapters, these characters had become a part of my life. To finish reading the novel is painful, like losing friends.

Decided to order on line though not familiar with author. satisfied with online presentation it was a good description and it was a good guide.
