Greater than one weekPeople started disappearing. It was discovered Dykens were kidnapping the Maslonian citizens, memory resequencing them and locating them in a Holodome which duplicates life as it appeared in the 21st-century earth. All of the Maslonians had all their memories erased and replaced with entirely new memories ensuring they were on eath. Little did they know earth had actually been destroyed by war, now little left but scorched and desolate, no vegetation, everything has been destroyed. To venture out of their Holodome for any length of time gas masks are a necessity. The general population of Dykens also had their memories replaced by resequencing and are convinced Maslonian was actually involved in a devastating world war, on the verge of destruction. They have pledged their lives to save other worlds from what they have witnessed happening to the earth. The elite few know what is really happening. General Stott and Trenton Madison have actually deceived everyone else to their plans. Maslonians all have special powers besides being able to read minds. The Deken technology is highly advanced, they have cloaking devices which is what they used to kidnap the 27,465 citizens they have located in the Holodome until they can use their shuttles to strip the planet of minerals and vegetation to supply life back to earth. Things escalated quickly and certain citizens are regaining their powers. One is Shayne Bartlet who is an extremely powerful telepath and has other powers developing. The Dykens have stationed some of their soldiers in the Holodome acting as roommates to the Maslonians to monitor that they believe they are attending classes at an elite private college, when needed they log into their computers and update the higher-ups as to the behavior of the citizens. Danielle explains to Shayne what she believes as to why they have invaded Maslonian. After Brady, Shayne Dakens roommate also realizes that when they landed there was no sign of destruction or that anyone was possessed with so much hate of their fellow man that they were going to wipe out civilization. What they all believed could not be true, they started to assist Danielle and Shayne to gain some of the Dyken weapons and technology to try to free the people living in the Holodome, thinking it is the 21st-century.

> 3 dayIm not much of a sci-fi fan, but the Overtaking was a really enjoyable read, feeling more like an urban fantasy or paranormal romance. The writing was fresh and fun, great turns of phrase and fast paced. Being an indie book, its also nice to point out that this read as clean as any book from a traditional publisher (no errors or typos, etc). The story kept me interested throughout, and I enjoyed the romantic elements. The romance between the main characters was set up really nicely, particularly with the set backs the romance kept facing, and how the characters re-approached their relationship each time. I would give this 5 stars, except that I wish it had ended more wrapped up. I understand there is a sequel coming, but I personally prefer a book to come to a more complete ending even with a sequel on its heels. I am totally hanging out for the sequel now though. I can see this story and world being developed into a great series.

> 3 dayFrom the first page, this is one of the most riveting science fiction works Ive read in a long time. Sounds corny, but I really couldnt stop reading until Id finished. People are involved in a major planet-wide deception and are losing their freedoms. Memories are re-wired repeatedly. Just when the main characters are discovering more of the truth about how theyve been deceived, theyre caught and have their memories wiped/changed. Trusted people turn out to be villains who are robbing this planet and turning it into a wasteland. I cant wait until the next book comes out! :)

> 3 dayThere was continued excitement thru-out the book. Lieske made the end of each chapter a comment or some other way of leaving you hanging with What is going to happen now.? It encouraged me to get reading to the next chapter to find out what did happen next. Easy to read and fits the category of a good youth reader! But left me again, hanging at the end, unsure of what will happen next. Because it is probably meant to lead us into a second volume - It ended very quick and with a sad feeling of despair.

> 3 dayWill you be the next person to be overtaken? Or has it already happened? You may never know. If you read this book you will understand the extra meanings of the above questions. I enjoyed reading The Overtaking and look forward to the next book in the series. I am just starting to read romance novels and will only read ones like Victorine Lieske writes. I prefer books with no swear words and no sex scenes and Victorine delivers that along with a story that builds and draws me in as I read. I like the twists and turns Victorine put into this book, things I would never have thought would happen in a romance novel. There are many creative solutions to problems that come up and unexpected help for the main characters that kept me reading and wondering how things could possibly work out now. With this book Victorine has created characters that are very memorable too me and Im not talking about just the main characters. Even a very minor character, a little girl named Gita stands out in my mind. Victorines words created clear images in my mind as I got into the story. The characters seemed real, the events flowed naturally as the story progressed. If you like romances and some sci-fi/fantasy then you will enjoy The Overtaking. Robert Marda
