This is one of the best looking suitcases you could ever imagine and the quality of the construction and materials is exceptional. And if you need a rolling bag to carry flip flops and 2 tshirts with your board shorts its the ideal suitcase for you.

I recently purchased this suitcase (out of de$peration, at the airport) on a 2 week trip through Europe that involved 4 different non-connecting flights, mostly small regional airlines, and multiple trips via cobblestones, subway, escalator, and train. My concerns were: many airlines had strange carry-on requirements (ie: absurdly thin, such that my 2 tiny under-seaters didnt even qualify), checking a bag was (obviously) NOT an option, and I do NOT want to stress about the size/weight of my bag. Also, for the record, overpacking is NOT one of my problems. Im a super light traveler, so please keep that in mind for this review.

It seems like most of the reviews here are from people who received the suitcase for free in order to get them to review it. Well, I got it the old fashioned way: bought it. I wanted a somewhat smaller suitcase for 2-3 day business trips and my 22 TravelPro Crew 9 was a bit more than I needed. I also wanted something more stylish, which the Thule certainly provides. Overall, I like the Thules style and size. However, I am not a fan of how little you can get into this case. It is about 10% smaller than my travelpro in terms of dimensions, but I can only fit about 1/2 as much into it! There is a large pocket built into the front for storing items, but it takes up a huge amount of space and makes packing much less efficient. There are 2 bars for the handle inside the luggage that also takes up considerable space. Admittedly, the TravelPro Crew has this handle issue too, but is not as severe. I also find the compression board concept useless. It is hard to use and inconvenient. Something they apparently designed but never tested.

Too small poorly designed, maybe for an overnight, but didnt work well for a weekend in San Francisco. Doesnt fit down airlines smaller isles, zipper catches on compression system at top of bag.

I am very pleased with the Thule Subterra Carry-On for its clever design and attention to a customer’s needs. Made of nylon, around 7 lbs., with three color choices (Dark Shadow, Mineral, Ember), the smooth nylon finish is easy to clean and carry. One of the most aggravating parts of travel these days, it is a pleasure to bring this Carry-On on board a crowded plane with very little space for extras. (The tough, oversized wheels and telescoping handles are a welcome touch, as is the piggyback strap attachment loop should you need to attach another bag.

I really like them so far. Big wheels make for a smoother ride. We basically melted wheels off other brands that had tiny wheels after a few trips. These are really cool with the storage features too.

I like the rounded molded curves and subtle lime green accents on the exterior of this Thule carry-on. It makes it look distinct as well as attractive compared to the basic square carry-on. Inside, it is also lined with lime green trim and has two primary storage areas. The first is inside the lid and separated from the bottom half by a zippered mesh divider. In addition to keeping the top half contents of the case separated, it also allows anything stored within the top half to breath. The bottom half of the case is divided from the top by a compression panel that attaches to the case via plastic ratchets on each side. It can be raised, lowered and set at a desired spot along the ratchets by pulling inward on the small green straps attached to each ratchet. Lowering the compression panel can compress clothing in the bottom half to allow more space. The compression panel has a zippered storage portion but its not very spacious and can only accommodate small items or one piece of light clothing. It may fit two if theyre small pieces like underwear. Finally, there is a small zippered pocket outside of the case which contains another small zippered mesh pocket within. Its large enough to hold one or two pieces of clothing, a small pair of shoes o personal items like toiletries.
