I tested it too, Once I dropped my Surface Pro 3 with its original sleeve and the thing was just totaled. I tried it again with this sleeve and it came out fine. to be honest it is a bit bulkier than a normal sleeve but I dont mind the minor inconvenience for complete protection of my laptop.
