Received this and it was broken. There were no clips on the shaft to hold up the umbrella.

Totes umbrellas are awesome.

The mechanism to hold the umbrella open failed when I went to open it after literally only using it twice...just 10 days past the last return date. Im shocked that Totes is so shoddy!

In the past, I have had a totes umbrella and had no problems with it, in fact it lasted me about 10 years! When that one finally fell prey to time and use, I decided to get a new one in hopes that it would live up to the previous expectations. It clearly did not. I have used this umbrella TWICE. The first time it opened fine, but I had a hard time closing it. I was able to get it closed, but it took me about 2 minutes. Today I got caught in a torrential downpour, but logically thought I would be able to use my umbrella. It barely opened and I could not get it closed. So, after 2 uses, it met an early death in my dumpster. Wish it had lived up to my previous standards. Skip this purchase and get something that will actually last.

What happened to Totes’ quality? I ordered 2 different ones. This one is very difficult to open and close. Luckily the other one in plain black works smoothly as expected. Totes is usually a reliable brand. This one is going back.

Umbrella is to small. Might do well for a child

As a family member commented when she saw me with this umbrella attached to my purse, Thats the PERFECT New York City umbrella!. Shes right. We have WICKED rain squalls in NYC that come up with no warning. The wind is sudden and tough and the rain pummels you. This is a small but mighty umbrella which is easy to carry around my wrist or attach to my small shoulder strap bag. Lightweight and really cute, you may have to duck into a doorway to open or close it during a downpour, but in a pinch its the best one Ive ever had.

I bought this little umbrella because I was going away on a trip overseas and I needed a small umbrella for travel purposes. It is super compact and I love the design. There is no other brand quite like totes for making a little umbrella that is compact and well-made. I will update this review once I actually use it, because I have not yet needed to use it for any rain.
