Prior to ordering the Bearcat 880, I was using a Cobra 19 Ultra III and felt like I was 10ft tall and bulletproof. Rollin down I-40 talkin to Big Rigs and using trucker lingo left and right: 10-4 good buddy Breaker 1-9 BJ two two But after being told that I was not coming in clearly (as well as what BJ two two actually MEANT) I realized I was no longer safe on the roadways with a Walmart special (or in the bathrooms at Target) SO I wanted to spread my wings....and if I were going to venture outside the safety of my home state (North Carolina) I was going to need more of a BIG BOY radio (as well as some street smarts to identify trannys in bathrooms in the other lower 48s) So I hunkered down on the ole interwebs (Thanks Richard Rawlings) and did me some research on the BEST bang for the buck in the Big Boy trucker world of radios. All roads pointed back to the Bearcat! I ordered me up one and mounted it in my Jeep. You see, us club riders use these here CBs to warn each other about Toyota drivers in the woods who spend MOST of their time standing on the trail watching other vehicles conquer obstacles while they take the bypass on harder trails. ..and no one wants to hear you warn others about those Yota-boys and which way to go to avoid them, when its all crackling and broken sounding. I read the instructions and prepared to tune the whip (that theres trucker-speak for antenna for all you undumacated folks) but to my surprise my numbers were spot on I was SO pleased with my application in my Jeep and how clear and powerful it was, I ordered one for my tow rig. Installation in it didnt go so well. My numbers were ridiculous, and my antenna failed as well as my RF. I was spiking at 12 on 40 and 4 on 1 I couldnt figure out for the life of me what was wrong. I grounded the antenna to both the body AND the frame....with no luck Instructions were useless at this point. FINALLY a friend told me that you can tune the RADIO to the Antenna! But that the instructions didnt tell you how to do that. First, you go to 40 and test...If you spike over 2.5 push the S/RF/CAL/SWR button until you get to CAL. Cue the Mic and turn the channel button DOWN until you get to 2-2.5 Repeat for 1 until it too is within 2-2.5 When you correct 1 go BACK to 40 and recheck. Then back to 1 THIS will keep your S/RFs below 3 and keep you from burning up your radio. And staying off Ch22 will keep you from burning up your rear and or getting a surprise in the mens room out of the comfort of North Carolina & Mississippi I am very happy with my Bearcat 880 and would recommend it to anyone

This thing is really big. If you have a Tacoma, you will be hard pressed to find an installation spot for it. I never hooked it up due to its size. Looks like it has a bunch of features. I returned it to Amazon and purchased the President Bill.

First one I got was DOA. It would light up and appear to function but no sound from it. Even the buttons didnt beep when pressed. The second one functioned as expected SORTA. The output on the receiving end has very low volume. Everyone tells me they have to turn me way up to hear me, which makes everyone else too loud. This wasnt the case with the Uniden 550 this unit replaced. I have the mic gain all the way up but it doesnt seem to help. Rather than return it again, Ill probably just take it to a CB repair place to have it checked. I havent decided yet. Maybe Uniden will see my review and offer some suggestions. EDIT: I decided to return it. I couldnt justify spending additional $$ to get it working right. I bought a different brand.

I installed this radio in my Dodge Durango to replace my old radio .. I do have to say this is a solid radio with tons of features built it. The speaker is nice and clear and can be turned quite loud if you have a noisy vehicle to mount it in. The display though is really what makes this CB, i was really amazed at how great it looks - it is extremely easy to read, and has thoughtful features like a dedicated night button which can be programmed to switch to any of the display colors you prefer for night/day, adjustable talkback, and mic gain right on the front! Also, there are the 7 weather freqs with weather alert that makes it nice when you are traveling with the family. I like this much better than my old Uniden LT, which was a great radio but i lost my side bands (That i never used anyways) and it looked like it was out of a 1970s. The 880 looks like it belongs in a modern vehicle, and performs as great as it looks right out of the box! This radio is also nice for everyone used to the size of the big radios as this one has the same great features and is sightly smaller and fits much better into smaller spaces. This is a wonderful radio and i look forward to the wireless mic that uniden will be coming out with for it later this year..

So, I put some spade connectors on the wires, connected my coax and new mic, started it up. No surprises so far. I also have a cobra 29 and it has very good reception, this unit (880) may be slightly better. Sound is pretty good, but I think the talk back may be a bit weak. Both the cobra and this unit have all channel and men scanning. The 880 does scan a bit faster which I like. Weather channels come in loud and clear. I also used the diagnostic screen, and will say that the SWR measurement is pretty close, and the value read out is a nice touch. This CB went into a Jeep unlimited rubicon, into a tuffy box. I may go back to a footman loop mount as this unit is quite a bit lighter and smaller than the cobra 29. As far as size, picture something between a uniden 520 , and the cobra 29. About the same width as a 29 but shorter. One other nice touch I thought was the case screws. The case has the same four screws as any CB, but they are recessed, and look very clean. I used the six pin mic that came with the 880 with no issues. My jeep does hit the trails, so longevity will be a concern until it proves itself. Feel free to ask questions, and hope this was helpful.

Love the memory and scan feature as a construction driver, can program known channels into memory or scan at a rock pit to find what channel they are on. Can even scan just memory channels to monitor different departments on different channels.

I have this installed on top of my dash in Phoenix AZ. Put it on in October...Will be interested to see how/if it lasts the summer. I have a friend who lives here who has his mounted in the same location and has had it there for a couple of years with no issues yet...
