> 24 hourThis is great to have in an emergency in case your primary batteries cannot be charged. It provides at least some power to the unit although broadcast power is reduced. Other than that it works as advertised and is of good construction. I recommend having one.

> 24 hourYaesu is as good as it gets! I have a FT5DR. I bought the fast charger base unit that the charge cord plugs into. With the base unit the radio charges in half the time as using just the wall cord. With this battery box three AA batteries you can get up to almost 12 hours of radio use. Awesome. Using GPS and other features of the radio requires power and the price of this authentic, Yaesu accessory, you have power! Get it and you wont be disappointed.

> 24 hourThe power output, when using AA cells is a little less than 1 watt, which isnt much, but is good enough for short range work. More importantly, it allows you to power the radio for listening, monitoring, scanning, recording with just a pile of AA batteries. Ive been using my FT3D as a scanner lately, and this lets me save my lithium ion batteries for two-way use, while powering the radio for scanning and recording with just my pile of AA NiMH batteries.

> 24 hourThis works, but shouldnt be your primary method. In this mode, you will be transmitting at 1 watt max with the VX-8R. That should reach your local repeater, but you may be scratchy into it. Its primary use should be sitting in your ARES Go-Kit for a just in case scenario.
