It is not needed for the mic I bought. The pictures and desripition on the site are incorrect. Not worth the hassle to return

I needed this for my classes, and it does a pretty good job. I have had a few instances where I had to wiggle my microphone around to get it to recognize the mic from the computer, but I havent had that problem lately.

I had the device plugged into my mac book for less than 60 seconds and an error came up saying that a USB device was drawing too much power and my laptop had shut it off. I unplugged the device and it was too hot to even touch. After letting it cool I tried it again and it was dead, the USB port still works fine but the device is done. It was scary to me how hot it got and how quickly it got there. Not sure why this happened but it is very unsettling. I bought this one for the reviews but I guess I got the one.

Great sound card! Im a Massachusetts court reporter and I use a number of mics on the job. Having an external sound card is awesome!

Works excellent with VXI Tria USB headset. A must have for better microphone accuracy.

This product is excellent. Since Apple doesnt have line-in inputs on their laptops now, you have to use a product like this to get a stereo signal into your recording program. This is the cheapest one I found that does the job.

Works well on windows. On OSX it has problems where it randomly inserts noise before sounds, or plays sounds slower than normal, or doesnt play them at all.

This is a replacement for the same product but older model. This newer model has the extended cable for easier access to surrounding USB ports. Ive only used it once so far but it seems to work as expected - which is what you always want; right?

I used this with my cell phone to record music. This shows me how bad the ADC on cell phones are. The sound quality was improved ten fold.
