Most people just use surge protectors as power strips, shelling out a couple of dollars to turn one outlet into ten. While surge protectors do serve that function, the real important reason to have one is the fact that a power surge can damage your electronics, which in a modern household can quickly add up to thousands of dollars worth of damage.

> 3 dayI have APC power strips that must be 20 years old (and should be replaced.) The one thing that always impresses me about the APC strips is that their grip on the plug is so ridiculously, annoyingly tight, even after decades! And no, they do not get easier over the years.
